Ok, I can now verify everything is totally working. I had to restart the simulator twice before I got the prompt for the last remaining package of 27Gb. Once I installed that package update, I checked and all those 4 addon airports are working, Including VHHX.
Does anyone else still experience this issue? I still keep getting the missing packages error despite it supposedly being fixed. The sim doesn’t update anything even after multiple restarts and trying to force an update by deleting a package in the Official folder doesn’t do anything to improve the situation at all. The sim still fails to get whatever missing packages there are and forces a quit if I try to install said missing packages.
Are there any other workarounds? I’ve tried deleting the appdata folders for the sim, reinstalling said sim, and even forcing and update by deleting one package from the Official folder to no avail. Is the team still investigating this issue?
Yes, still experiencing this issue. Clean install about 5 hours ago. I get the Xbox splash screen, the Asobo, the ai splash screen, then the error message requiring me top quit to desktop.
Using Steam. Got that “You are missing packages that are essential…” error after changing to a new computer. Tried Uninstalling / reinstalling a couple of times but only got that same message again and again. Then uninstalled FS2020 from Steam, uninstalled Steam from PC and then removed manually everything FlightSimulator and Steam related from hard drive - all the folders mentioned earlier in this thread. Restarted Windows. Installed Steam, installed Flight Simulator. WORKS!
Update. Uninstalled MFS last night from Steam and then reinstalled it fresh today. Still getting the same error and cannot access the game.
I had this same issue and reinstalled everything.
Sim starts, but i get a notification for an “Essential Package Update” that improves experience, etc…
if i click install, sim restarts, goes through the initial set up screen, then i have a blank screen that never advances to anything (i left it running overnight)
My problem is that I don’t have that folder at all. When I try to launch the game, it seems to always want to install everything. =/
Any update on this? As of 11/27, Microsoft Flight Simulator is still not working.
I reinstalled yesterday after a full uninstall, and it’s working for me now. During install it was fetching 502 packages instead of the 488 shown previously.
Yes, managed to get it working by removing the program and then reinstalling from Steam. For other Steam users who might be experiencing this problem, note that uninstalling from Steam is not enough. You need to uninstall the app from your computer by going to Add or Remove Programs in Windows and uninstalling from there.
Hi, related to my missing authorization to include links in my post Irceieved today the below mentioned email, which explains the situation.
“… Hey there. We see you’ve been busy reading, which is fantastic, so we’ve promoted you up a trust level! …”
Omg, it worked, thank you very much

Today 6th December 22 after MSFS installed of 1.30.5.0 as a beta installation. I am getting the missing packages error despite it supposedly being fixed. Running Windows 11
I am also still having this issue of missing packages error. Since 03 Dec 2022, when I started the update to 1.29.30.0 it is still existent. I had not performed any hardware install or reinstall of the Sim ahead of that incident. The workaround of deleting a package doesn’t work for me, because after the re-download of that deleted folder I am always having a CTD after appr. 1 - 2 mins. Currently I am not able to run the Sim at all. Possibly woth to mention that I had not downloaded the A310 and the DC-3, yet.
I have exactly same issue as you have. I tried to reinstall the sim due to CTDs and this thing started to happen. So I cannot use this sim at all.
The issue is solved for me now.
Here are the instructions, that I obtained from the Zendesk, just in case anyone else is still facing this issue…
Instructions were:
Some missing or corrupted updates can prevent the app from running correctly.
CLEAN INSTALLATION:
- For step-by-step instructions, go to How to repair or remove and do a clean install of Microsoft Flight Simulator on Microsoft Store.
- NOTE: Make sure to delete all Sim files before re-installing (excluding Community folder content)
Based on this, all the packages are completely downloaded again.
All in all, pretty easy to perform, but takes a while for the downloads.
Hi, i have the same problem. you found
a solution?
same, just bought it, can’t play for 3 days
Have you tried to follow TedStrikerTA209 instructions ?:
