[1.4.12.0] SU2 Beta Survey - Performance (PC)

FPS and micro-stutters have definitely improved,
but I’m still getting freezes — sometimes the image locks up for several seconds (probably terrain loading?).

I just don’t get how I can fly over New York with a stable 60 FPS and no stutters,
and then suddenly, mid-flight, get massive freezes.
Tweaking LOD or texture quality doesn’t seem to help at all.

Still some stutters on runways upon landing, even if on the same runway there are no stutters on takeoff. Fluidity on the ground should be one of the priority issues to be fixed…

I was having some serious FPS issues during landing as I was in the flare. I would be at 90+ FPS then it would drop to around 20 FPS then it would shoot back up to 90+ FPS and it would totally throw me off so much so that I even slammed on the runway with my nosewheel first and bounced back into the air while on VATSIM (I’m sure the FedEx 777 holding short got a kick out of that, lol). This seemed to happen at pretty much all airports I was landing at and was very confused as to why it was happening. After much trial and error I found that deleting the Nvidia shader cache fixed this issue. I thought it was a SU2 perfomance issue.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Opinions about Msfs 2024’s development

Please fix this landing/taxi stutters on bigger handcrafted Airports like eddf, eglll, etc.. i cant understand why they dont realize this issues?!

In 12. its better now but not fixed!

Indeed, after clearing the NVIDIA cache, the stutters almost completely disappeared.
It would be interesting if other simmers could try it too and share their feedback
I really feel like this might be part of the issue.

I cleared the shader cache this morning and all microstutters are now gone. Started a 2 hour flight KMSP-KEWR in the Max to see if FPS deteriorate over time.

How do you cleared your shaders which folders?

TBH found a YT video and just followed the steps. Others here may have a better way?

Another simmer already shared it in a different thread, but here it is :
https://fr.flightsim.to/file/71729/corsten-s-cache-shader-removal-tool
This tool lets you clear the cache in just a few seconds!

To follow-up on my 2 hour flight mentioned above, while the FPS deteriorated a bit less than in the previous two beta releases, it did deteriorate nonetheless along with some stuttering. This suggests to me that the VRAM bug marked as fixed in SU2 has not yet been rolled out to us in beta, as others have suggested above and in other beta threads. That said, clearing out the shader cache made for a nice clean start to the flight well into the first 90 minutes or so.

Very similar performance to the v1.4.10.0 build. I ran some additional test flights with the Cessna Citation CJ4 from Fresno Yosemite (KFAT) to Los Angeles (KLAX), as reported here:

With Frame Generation and Dynamic Settings enabled, I’m not seeing any stuttering on take off or landing and visually the ground textures look good on my 55" TV at a resolution of 2496 x 1404.

Just landed another 2 hour airliner flight, this one in the PMDG 738 in 2020. While a similar but not the same flight, in 2020 I had the same dead on 60 FPS with no visual degradation of any kind, no stuttering, end-to-end. While these are two different simulators for sure, 2020 has overcome memory loss/leakage over time while 24 apparently has not, yet anyway. Looking forward to that victory (soon)?!

Still getting really bad jitters when looking out the side window at any AG trees.

Even worse if they are AG trees OVER photogrammetry forest blobs.

And fauna is still a massive “no-go” for me. Lots of stutters even when seemingly no animals in sight.
