.13 performance has gotten way worse for me. I have what I think are pretty middle of the road specs (maybe dated some):
AMD Ryzen 7 3800x 8 core 32gb ram
Radeon RX 5700 XT 8gb vram
I think even earlier in the su2 beta cycle, I would get main thread limited even on high settings with tlod 150 or 200 and a few settings bumped up to ultra.
Last evening on .13, I took the settings all the way down to low, dropped lod’s below 100 and my gpu was still pegged and getting terrible fps.
Curious if I’m imagining a shift from cpu to gpu? Am I missing something?
EDIT: also noticed that in general (even with higher settings) the terrain at pretty much all altitudes looked pretty bad. fuzzy, washed out, indistinct, etc. clouds too. looked like floating, solid cotton balls even on high/ultra for clouds. seemed a large step back from what i’ve seen previously.
So weird, just reloaded and tried again with c172 to keep things “light”. Flight at kptk, was getting 60+ fps (on low-end). Turned around to land, and it is completely unplayable. the overlay here shows 18-20fps, but that is not accurate. The screen will only move about every 1.5-2s, and AMD Adrenaline performance shows 1fps.
Working really well for me. I’ve done a few test flights, there were a few brief stutters but generally super smooth and fluid to the extent I stopped even thinking about whether it was performing OK.
i9-10900K, 64GB RAM, m2SSD, 5080, 1.2 Gbps internet
4K, TAA with FG on, Ultra settings except Textures High and Fauna off (as I believe it causes CPU spikes). Frame rate limited to 60 in Nvidia Control Panel.
Performance can be very good, but is variable. The same scenarios (airport, aircraft etc.) can be different on consecutive days. Some days it’s CPU bound, others GPU bound and I then spend ages changing graphical settings. Good days I can run ultra, others it has to be high.
Landing at any ‘addon’ airport, either 3rd party or in sim handcrafted resulted in VRAM overusage, the GPU utilisation would drop and and the GPU clock speed would increase past its rated speed. Problem intensifies if I pan around using Tobii eye tracker. Following comments in a thread, I disabled Rebar/Smart Access Memory and this seems to have made it playable, if not as fluid as non handcrafted airports.
After watching A330 Driver’s YT on settings, I tried something new and it’s working for me: Reducing Texture resolution to Medium. Wow, just the right amount of frame rate relief in heavy airport DLC! I spent about an hour or more just taxiing around the new for 2024 KIAD (GlideslopePro) and Dz’s KEWR, which is 2020 now compatible with 2024. Honestly, I’m not missing whatever detail is lost in while taxiing. Maybe I’d up it to High to tour inside terminals? YMMV but leaving this at medium to see how it works out over a few flights.
After some tweaking as well I am getting quite good performance. One problem I had while troubleshooting is that it seemed that changing settings basically stopped working after a while. So I would be changing settings, and wouldn’t see changes you would reasonably expect. So I got in the habit of exiting and restarting the sim periodically and that greatly improved my ability to see if changes were working. Doesn’t seem like that should be necessary, but…
