:warning: Reminder:

I’m still getting the poor performance at some airports I’ve had with the last couple of beta builds with this build too, the latest offending airport being PHKO where the area around the airport is pretty barren so it must be something with the airport textures.

Once away from these airports, performance is the best I’ve experienced with MSFS 2024, so if some of this can be channelled back into these FPS-dipping airports all will be good!

For comparison, I went back to SU1 and loaded in to PHKO with everything the same as I had with SU2 .18 and performance in VR was completely fine, so something’s up with SU2.

Yep tried again same landing performance plummets, VRAM over used, generally poor all round.

Wasn’t expecting any different as the last few updates haven’t said anything about fixing these issues.

Best VR performance I’ve ever had in MSFS 2024 with this release. Much more stable and allowing me to increase the VR Graphics settings considerably.

I’m running with a AMD Ryzen 7900X, RTX 4070 TI, and 64 GB of RAM. The settings I’m running with now are stable and stutter free. It is a huge performance increase from last night in VR.

One thing I have noticed with MSFS 2024 is that the lower I set the general graphics for the screen the higher I can go with the settings in VR. I’m running with the screen graphics at the lowest setting or off on every setting, this also gave a big improvement compared with just having it set to Ultra and DLSS on for the screen.

Has anyone else noticed that the general screen quality settings have a big impact on VR performance (stuttering, crashing, etc.)?

Regards to you All.

Terrible performance in vr now. Went from 45-50fps to 30-35 now. Something is very wrong with this update.

Do you have wake turbulence turned on? I am finding if I turn it on and I fly around other aircraft especially in multiplayer I get a lot of studders, turn it off and it is smooth. It also does not seem to create any turbulence that I can feel.

I’m not sure but I will check tomorrow when I fire up my MSFS PC.

foveated rendering gives a mixed performance.
flying around it’s very smooth, landing on airport gives stutter, flying over big tree scenery in italy gives bad stutter.
disabled the whole experience is not so smooth, but no stutters or performance issues on landing. weird.

Hi, in my flights with this beta (see settings from my previous post) I had wake turbulence turned on and at one of the airports I got too close to a passenger jet and my little Cessna was blown all over the place until I stopped and let the jet get out of the way :^))

Triton 610,

Have you tried reducing the General graphics settings to the absolute minimums (or off when possible) as I find that the lower these are the higher I can set the VR graphics settings, see my VR settings above.

Do you have Foveated Rendering on? If yes, try with off. It seems in one of the later beta builds there was a bug introduced that causes issues when this is turned on:

I just checked and wake turbulence is off.

BTW, I have switched back to SU1 for my last couple of flights and have had consistent performance again. The only notable setting change I have in SU2 is foveated rendering is on, which did give me weird high/low FPS at airports when it first came out, so maybe that’s the cause. I will switch back to SU2 and try a few flights with foveated rendering turned off, to be sure.

I agree that VR performance has definitely got worse since this latest update.

I stress test the VR performance on my gaming laptop w a mobile 3080 GPU. Still getting serious stutters and now also delayed updates (like 1-2 sec).
In the latest update I have for the first time experienced shifts in where the sim thinks my head position is - suddenly popping outside the aircraft or down at the seat level. Never happened before.
Using Pima Crystal Light.

Another test, fresh install, fresh cache, all other games/flight simulations run just fine.

Dreadful single digit FPS on taxi, did not improve until 3000agl where it settled down, but there was still major & minor stutters it was never smooth for more than a minute at a time.
Upon final approach FPS dropped to single digits again and I crashed the aircraft, this is a SERIOUS issue and simply must be dealt with before public release.

It would be great directly hear from the developers if they require logs, benchmarks or whatever, this continued one way street of communication is making this whole beta process extremely frustrating - do you want our help or not? As I get the feeling you don’t…

I had been using ffr but also tried turning it off and saw no change. I do not run anything beyond a sterile clean install of the SU2 beta as I want as pristine a test environment as possible. Something was done in the last update that absolutely tanked performance. Also I’m on a 24gb 4090 and it’s now routinely hitting 22gb+ vram usage. It’s not going over 24gb but is definitely a good bit higher now with far worse performance. I’ve not done a lot of testing in the flatscreen environment but anecdotally it also seems much worse with this latest update.

I turned off everything people suggested.
Foveated rendering
Fauna
Rebar
Texture displacement
None of it made a difference. The longitude still stuttered. I lowered my 2d settings to low, and now at least it was flyable in VR.
Sound familiar? Fs2020 did the same thing. The 2d and VR settings effected each other.

Performance is fine for me, it’s pleasant.

The biggest frustration for me in VR is the visual effects of the main rotor turbulence on certain helicopters (h125, R66), which give a sensation of jerky movements in the environment when moving around.
It’s a pity, as these helicopters are very present in the career mode. Could we have an option to deactivate or reduce them?

Many thanks for supporting VR.

For me, there has really been no improvement in VR performance since launch.

If Asobo have marked the VRAM bug down as being “fixed”, then they are presumably no longer even looking for a solution - this despite the large thread contradicting this claim. My situation is still the same - out of 11Gb VRAM available, my performance deteriorates once I get above 7Gb usage, which happens in most flights. Luckily I do not suffer from many CTDs (although in this beta I have had more than previously). Regressions introduced in this beta don’t look like they will ever be fixed

In FS2020, a major excuse from Asobo was that they were having to use legacy code, and that the world will be a much better place if they could re-write from scratch. Well, they’ve had their chance to do this, and as far as I’m concerned it has gone backwards. I still get better performance in FS2020 (running on DX11, of course), without any significant degradation in visuals. And this is near the end of SU2 beta, the big one which was meant to solve a lot of problems. With hindsight, I should not have expected much from FS2024 - it looks like my Aviator version expenditure was money down the drain.
