Flight 1 KSEA to KSFO 737 downloaded, scenery streamed – stutter fest from cold/dark start to mid air CTD turning south after north takeoff
Flight 2 KSEA to KSFO 737 downloaded, all scenery downloaded. Markedly less stutters – manageable. Became very smooth during cruise. Stutters returned for landing but remained tolerable through approach, landing and to parking at gate
Flight 3 KSEA to KSFO Longitude streamed, all scenery downloaded. Stutters to CTD on the ground.
Flight 4 KSEA to KSFO Longitude streamed, all scenery downloaded. Lots of stutters – more than streamed 737 IMO. Ran out of time and patience. Called it a night
Flight 5 KJFK – KORD Longitude downloaded, all scenery downloaded. CTD seconds after loading into sim
Flight 6 KJFK – KORD Longitude downloaded, all scenery downloaded. Longitude appears less polished than 737. Much more frequent stuttering on the ground, even before startup than 737. But less stutters than streaming it the night before (I believe the download status was more impactful than reduced network traffic @8am vs @11pm). Wild moment in CTD flight not numbered here – for reasons unknown, all electrics died and plane “rebooted” on ramp – more anon.
Stuttered to runway, stuttered aloft to KORD. As KJFK was left astern and the good earth fell away, the stuttering improved to poetic smoothness in cruise. This degraded into stutters and the kids game “123 redlight” as I descended into KORD. ATC assigned me rwy 28(something) which is notable because planes were taking off on it – in the opposite direction…
Not being a pilot, I unsmoothly got onto final and got the ILS hooked up as the stutters increased. Going ashore from the lake, there were severe LOD issues. Ill defined mush would suddenly become detailed parts of Chicago in blocks across the screen. KORD itself was a vague bunch of lines with 2 white PAPI lights until it got close enough to give detail to the end, then middle etc of the runway.
At final when I had to hand fly it, the stutters were so bad I had little real or apparent control, nudge the nose up “redlight” now too high “redlight” nudge nose down while frozen. “Greenlight” too low – repeat. This is with the runway under the plane. Some wild wing and a prayer way I got it down and did a “Fast and Furious “ drift rollout as the runway etc suddenly went full detail. And it rebooted again. I just held brakes and reversers until it all stopped. Then something took off in my direction. Then CTD so I didn’t have to stutter to parking.
Conclusions Thus far… Downloading the aircraft and scenery made substantial improvements, but expectedly, that depends on how polished the plane is (assume the same for scenery). Didn’t expect Longitude to be so problematic. Will try career/2024 exclusive planes next – CJ4 / PC12 / Visionjet on the assumption that career/exclusive planes were built for 2024 at the start.
