Since the PC and PS5 appear to work correctly. I think the Dev team needs to focus on XBox now. They need to put a team on XBox. If I’m correct it’s the one platform that still has poor performance. Just the other day I was in the Rascal Paramotor out in the middle of nowhere on ile Amsterdam in the southern Indian Ocean. It was my only flight. I experienced around 10 second long stutters trying to land. It made the landing impossible. I was using the final release of SU3 at the time, but it was only a short flight from ile St. Paul to Ile Amsterdam. They need a special dev team on XBox. It would be nice if the sim worked. I want to fly more than just a Cessna 172 at an unmodeled airport. To be fair though, I have had some good flights in the 172 and 208 at modeled airports. It’s just my last 3 flights have been stutterfests so I’m frustrated because this can still be a stutter fest with real slow performance ending in a CTD.
I hear you AZlog. Was the Live weather a nice calm clear day? I find the stormy days have caused me issues in the past. I do not know perhaps the intensity of the weather makes a difference in the outcome of a flight. I think every situation should work as promised. But I did have a non stuttering flight through Hurricane Melissa in a Cessna Grand Caravan. So my flights seem to be hit or miss. But I’m thankful that you had a great flight. This sim is a blast when it works for sure. But I want it to work consistently and with all planes and locations and settings. I agree with you!
Hazy in Casablanca but fine weather otherwise
Go figure I’m having a good flight in the Kodiak 100 tonight. I used tons of external view without stutters. I did not go into the settings menu.
My own findings summarised for su4 beta.21
GA aircraft all perform very well on Xbox. Flying the Aerostar 600 in MSFS2024 is a real joy. It’s generally very smooth and the A2A EFB and the WT EFB work very well. The turbulence effects are well implemented now and it feels a very realistic flying experience. The scenery is stunning. This experience is well above anything MSFS2020 can offer and the improvement on Xbox is phenomenal.
WASM issues - this build has suffered from WASM tinkering - there are faults with many third party aircraft. The ones I’ve experienced directly are the Just Flight F28 and Just Flight RJ which will not load at all ( the Aerosoft CRJ did have issues but it now loads in the latest build). The PMDG B777-200ER suffers from long (10s +) freezes with a sound similar to airbrake deployment. These freezes occur in all phases of flight but seem to happen more frequently during climb out and descent. All instruments and outside scenery freeze, sound continues and then there is a recovery - it feels like an active pause. The Flight FX Citation X has blank avionic screens but there is a workaround - install the MSFS2020 version, which also performs a lot better in MSFS2024..
The biggest disappointment continues to be final approach to ( and ramp manoeuvres on) medium/large airports in complex aircraft like the Inibuilds airbuses or the PMDG B777s. The big stuttering on finals is an immersion killer after a long flight - turning down settings for static aircraft and ramp traffic don’t help as much as they should. The first build in this beta worked very well but since then we appear to be moving backwards.
Overall, SU4 is nowhere near ready for release - the underlying WASM issues have broken many third party aircraft and they all need to be fixed before release or there will be many very disappointed customers and released in this state it could take many weeks or months of hard work with the affected developers to solve all the problems. This is a very serious issue that should be prioritised.
The stuttering on Xbox needs to be solved - and we know from the first build that it can be. Perhaps some COTS Xbox expertise and testing should be undertaken as my own view is that we are very close to having a very acceptable MSFS 2024 for Xbox. This really needs to be fixed before the PS 5 version comes out. It feels to me sometimes (still…) that getting the sim running properly on Xbox is still a bit of an afterthought rather than a strong goal.
All in all then - coming up to a year after its flawed release, MS/Asobo have made progress but it is sometimes still haphazard and whilst this SU4 beta has undoubtedly made some improvements, they have mainly been cosmetic and have come at the cost of too many regresssions to make it feel anything other than a step backward at the moment.
PS: had a fantastic flight in the PMDG B777 last evening/this morning… KATL/EDDF - silky smooth, no stutters from push back to taxi in - it felt like a huge step forward. Unfortunately it was in MSFS 2020…
