1.6.7.0 - Actual FPS Is Less Than Set Max Frame Rate

I found this too, but it was more like a 6fps drop.

I only fly in VR and I have my fps limited to 38, as that’s the nearest I can set it to 50% of the 75hz of the BSB headset. But when I tried 1.6.7 my fps had reduced to 32 with the limiter on, but it felt more like 10fps, it was so choppy that it was unusable. So I turned off the limiter and my frame rate then consistently sat on 37.5, which happens to be the ideal 50% I need for this headset. Beautiful silky smooth performance and no stutters. So, in a sense, it’s a bug that actually worked in my favour!

I momentarily tried in 2D, with limiter set to 38 I was getting 75fps, which then shot up to around 150fps when I turned the limiter off (no frame gen being used). Strange behaviour!

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

When locking framerate at example 45fps in sim, it is in reality locking at 33.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Everytime

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Start sim

  2. Set target framerate 45

  3. Observe fps in game locking at 33 instead og 45

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using:

[PC Only] no changes in developer mode

[PC Only] rtx4090

[PC Only] i7-14700 64gb

MEDIA

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

Its starting to become abit of a trend now with the UI sliders or settings in general becoming broken in the sim and not working the way they should. I wonder if its a UI issue or engine issue here.

We’ve had the VR objects level of detail slider broken then fixed, and the VR world scale slider currently does not save its setting.

I have the same issue. When not set I’m getting 80+ FPS

When set to 30 I’m only getting 21 FPS

Can you please emphasize to the dev team the importance of the Max Frame Rate setting and the need for a resolution ASAP. Many of us really on it heavily, in conjunction with Frame Generation, for smooth and consistent performance.

Thank You

Like many others, ran into this last night. Typically capped at 60, FG x2 for 120 @ 120hz. Was seeing 115-116 but was still decently smooth thanks to gsync and vsync. I also noticed I was back at 1440p instead of my DSR upscaling to 4k.

Switched to 4k still capped at 60, saw 118. Ditched the cap all together, getting a much more consistent and smoother(in terms of frame timings and latency) 120fps simply thanks to Gsync and Vsync.

I checked the UserCfg.opt file and it looks like the selected max frame rate (FrameLimiter) setting is being applied correctly there. It must be an engine thing rather than the UI.

I also have this problem see this post for details.

….decreased performance. Get permanent (green) stable 16/17ms on CPU and GPU, but I can no longer achieve my 80 fps, max. 62-65 fps (VD, SSW).

…strange behavior….

Have this since a couple of days in SU3, I don’t use SU4 beta. Like there is another hidden setting somewhere. Had mine at 45 in 2D and VR settings, also in nvidia control panel, VD at 90hz, but can’t exceed 40 before FG/SSW.

Edit: Also checked user.cfg, everything set at 45.

Hmm it looks like a maximum value to me i.e. go at any speed but don’t exceed this.

It seems like the naming of the control is confusing and open to interpretation.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

There seems to be something weird with frame limitation.

They dont seem to work independent in the settings in 2D vs. VR. Now I dont remember if it was the case before or not.

However, when I set it to 45 in VR (which is half of the 90Hz of my Crystal), I then get 43-odd FPS in 2D, which is a bit weird. And in VR its 33 FPS which is even weirder.

There is also stuttering when looking to the side in a plane (like the old beloved rubberband effect), which i dont know if its connected to the incorrect frame limitation.

I have not set any limiters anywhere else as far as i can remember and it has worked normally before. Especially not in pimax play.

Anyone else getting this?

I haven’t been able to test it thoroughly yet, but as a workaround the driver-based FPS limiter seems to work really well for me. Frame times are nearly perfect and there’s no stuttering. I’m impressed :+1:t3: I don’t know why I only thought of this now. Looks like the bug is causing more issues than just improper FPS limiting.

I also switched to using, in my case, NVCP to limit frames.

Wow the view out the front! Amazing!!!

OK, so why didn’t I think of that. Adrenaline has the ability to limit frames as well. Got to give it a try

Thanks

The Adrenalin frame limiter (Chill) did not work for me. It works fine for other games but not SU4 beta - ymmv.

Something else I noticed: when you set a frame cap at the driver level, the main thread stays in sync with the rendered FPS. But with the built-in MSFS FPS cap, the main thread seems to run independently (see screenshots above). Any idea why that is? Are there pros and cons to this behavior?

Yep, after testing it myself it also didn’t work. In fact it gave me the same results as when I used the SIM to limit frames. I’m thinking both are using the same mechanism.

Yes works for 2D, but somehow not for VR where I would like to use it….

The plot thickens!

Not only do I have to set 1 FPS higher Max Frame Rate in MSFS settings to get the 40 FPS I desire, but if I turn the NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency setting to Off, the FPS gets capped at 32.2 FPS.

If I then increase the Max Frame Rate above 64, I get an exact doubling of the capped FPS to 64.4 FPS.

There is some cross pollination of graphics settings going on affecting resultant max FPS that should not be happening!
