It is impossible to complete SAR hoist missions on land with strong wind (>16kt), as can not hover over target as requested while positioning the rescuer on the line close to the target. It is only possible to do one of the two, but not both at the same time as the line get’s draged way to far away from the chopper due to the wind. The hoist line reacts way to easy to the wind. Also, the rescuer is not seen on the line. See video below.
EDIT:
The actual issue is that the rescuer is not deployed onto the hoist line. It’s not possible to complete a hoist mission at any wind speed, even when it is 0 kt.
FREQUENCY OF ISSUE
How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
had it on the SAR hoist mission from YPRD and YBLS in Australia
REPRODUCTION STEPS
Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:
Start a SAR hoist mission with strong wind (>16kt). EDIT: wind does not matter
Fly to the search area and find the missing person.
Hover over target and start the hoist operation by pressing ENTER.
It is not possible to complete both mission steps at the same time (“hovering above target” and “bring rescuer closer to the target”) due to strong wind. The rescuer is also not animated hanging on the line, not sure if the rescuer is not going onto the line or just not visible. The hoist line is blown way to far from the helicopter due to the wind strength, even though it should have the weight of the rescuer at the end.
EDIT: wind has nothing to do with it, it’s simply that the rescuer is not deployed onto the line.
YOUR SETTINGS
[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
Can’t tell, as the 5.1 beta came before I started using hoist missions again since SU4. So it was the first time encountering the issue.
On another note, I found out that they don’t work at all for me anymore, even in 0 kt wind, as the rescuer is not beeing deployed, but just the line lowered.
So maybe that’s a general issue, that also leads to the line beeing blown away by the wind, as there is no weight at the end of it.
For testing, I went back to SU5 release version 1.7.27.0, and it works there even in strong winds:
So this problem is a SU5.1 beta version 1.7.28.0 regression, with the issue beeing that the rescuer is not deployed. I edited the title and updated the report.
Premise: the urgent need to rescue and bring the person in distress to a rescue boat.
Taxiing and a complete runway roll to take off in the opposite direction: as if we were in a plane!
Same, or return with a go-around for an occupied runway, followed by an approach and taxiing the entire length of the runway to reach a very long taxiway that brings us back near the ambulance.
Aside from the rescue of the person, everything happens as if we were in a private plane, not a helicopter on a rescue mission.
Yeah, I think that happens when the airport doesn’t have helipads. I had it though that they actually want you to taxi and start from a helipad, if there is one, but it also depends on mission type.
Anyway, your problem is not specifically related to this bug report.
I also confirmed, that it’s still an issue in 1.7.30.0, the rescuer is not deployed:
Thank’s for your answer but…
One of my friends has logged over 4,000 hours of flight time on military and rescue helicopters and has never had to taxi on the ground, even in the absence of a helipad at the airport. To me, this demonstrates a lack of understanding of helicopter rescue procedures. If there’s no helipad, ATC will direct you to the nearest runway threshold as quickly as possible to expedite the rescue. That’s how it works in real life.
So it’s a mistake and it belongs in this post.
Yes, it’s not realistic, but your request to change the mission procedure for helicopter missions from airports without helipads is more of a wishlist item.
You are free to add a thread in the wishlist sub-forum, or check, if a wish similar to yours already exists and vote for it there.
This thread is purely about the user being unable to finish hoist rescue missions in SU5.1, because the rescuer is not deployed onto the hoisting cable. So a regression bug.
