So I tested a flight, and it worked for 1 hour, 14 minutes, much longer & further than ever before, but then it crashed. Interestingly, it crashed as soon as I hit the V button to look at the VFR map. It’s never crashed before when I’ve been using that map. Bummed because I only had 15 minutes left on my flight. ![]()
It worked for me after I set up to show VFR map at the beginning of each flight, and I kept the map on the screen throughout the flight.
And I did also turned off text to speech for ATC, and have setup not to let AI to handle the ATC communications.
One thing I also changed was to only use generic graphics for both AI and Multiplayer traffic.
I think the above, as a combination, could keep us sane flying at the moment. Hope these helps…
I wonder if they have been doing something with the VFR map, perhaps to display other aircraft, and couldn’t get it finished before the last patch, but didn’t want to reverse it out?
Hi - I confirmed it’s the VFR map causing my crashes. Flights are all good when I don’t activate the map, but if I tap V in the middle of a flight, the game instantly crashes to desktop. I found the option to set the game to automatically enable VFR map and will give that a shot now. Thanks!
This has been happening to me every time I open the vfr map game crashes. Has to be an error in the new update. love people like to hijack threads that pertain to there topic.
Has been happening to me since the update. VFR map, not even touching it, the game just insta ctd’s. I’ll try without multiplayer on see if this helps.
Yep. That’s what I meant with multiplayer off. in my experience if you load the map at the beginning of the flight (or not at all) and keep multiplayer off, that keeps the CTD problems at bay.
Incidentally, I believe multiplayer and VFR map are two separate issues both of which cause CTD.
I never almost never used the VFR map because I fly mostly IFR, and crashed anyway with multiplayer enabled even when not touching the map at all.
Yeah, hopefully, that should solve it. My experience and other people trying that have been promising.
Open the VFR map before taking off and minimize it for the duration of your flight. You’ll be able to look at it anytime with no issues…

I just tried, switching both AI and Multiplayer traffic to “Generic” helps too
hello, even with the vfr card open and reduced its crash, I just tried 2 ifr flights on A320 LFPG => EBBR on the return to office approach!
And we get other content out without the bugs being fixed …
I also have experienced the black hole of the PAWS area. It seems to CTD when flying within 10nm of PAWS, or anytime you load a flight with PAWS as the departure airport.
This issue is not related to VFR map, nor the one hour CTD.
I have tried turning text to speech off, and PAWS still CTD. If anyone has found a solution. Please post it.
I normally run the VFR map the whole flight, and never have a CTD related to the VFR map.
I have, however, experienced a few of the one hour crashes. Most recently last night, one hour into a two hour flight. I will turn multiplayer off, test and report.
Just completed a 1.75 hour flight with multiplayer turned off. Its a lonely world out there!
No you are not alone, this is literally 1 of the most upvoted issues. (multiple threads like this)
May be trying turning both AI and Multiplayer traffic to Generic will help. Can turn multiplayer on if so. Hope this helps.
IT does help! Thank you. I was able to run multiplayer for a few hours last night without issue.
Great, happy flying
I hope they have some way of tracking CTD’s and can find out what causes it. There doesn’t seem to be any clear rhyme or reason for it though.
Yesterday working with the SDK I had a CTD. I re-booted the PC then tried several times to restart and it got as far as the dark screen with the rotating loading icon bottom right then CTD again. I tried booting with my peripherals switched on via my hub and CTD. So I took out all my Community folder content, re-started and same result, CTD. Tried again and it booted up ok. Closed it, put my community folder content back in and it started up fine for the rest of the day.
Its very frustrating because it seemed to be blind luck if it started or not, nothing I did resulted in a clear idea of why it would not load properly. Unlike XP where there is a log file showing the start up procedure and reason for failure, no such file exists for FS. This makes it very hard to work out what its doing or not doing.
Since Friday I’ve had CTD every time I load up a project in SDK.
Reinstalling now, and hoping for better times with the new patch later today…
yup i get the same in the TBM. Had third flight go ok after not using ATC or external views.
Any form of interaction with the flight computer seems to cause it .
