10-15 second stutters on final

  • Ryzen 5 5600x at 4.0 Ghz
  • 32 GB DDR4 3600Mhz
  • RTX 3080
  • 1TB M.2 NVMe

I am getting these awful stutters with MSFS whenever I am close to the ground. Usually they last around 10-15 seconds, and they haven’t actually crashed the sim but they don’t ever bode well. Here’s a video example starting at 3:19.

My mainthread has stuttering whenever I do get in-sim stutters, but I am not sure where to go from here. Anyone else have some ideas?

Your VRAM use is quite high. Does it do the same with lower graphics settings?

Also, try deleting rolling cache and see if that helps. Personally I have disabled rolling cache completely and don’t miss it, even on a 50Mbps internet connection.

Mark down your current settings, and then set your sim up as per this vid.
If the results don’t satisfy you, you can always go back to those.

my suggestion would be pretty much the opposite of the video above.

I would try to decrease the CPU load, the mainthread seems to be very limited compared to your GPU, though your vram seems to need some help too.
Terrain LOD would be the first suspect, and then various objects and traffic and injectors and so on.

Thanks everyone for the feedback - I assume when you guys are mentioning VRAM, it’s from the “GPU Mem: 9.233 / 8.895” in the gray box on the top right? If so, no matter how I set that, it’s always seemingly running out of memory.

I turned every setting to Low/Off (Minus Off-screen terrain pre-caching, Volumetric Clouds, and Texture Resolution) and I still had the stutter happening. No clue what’s going on
