10 GB for updates and slow downloads?

Never had any issue downloading any update… Go to the store, download the initial file, launch the game once that has completed, download the update in game… complaining about the size of the downloads is a strange one. This is a game which contains masses of data to reproduce excellent graphics…of course the downloads will be big to reflect that. Or do you want to go back to ms dos lol

Poor design choice, probably. Will get fixed in the future, I hope.

So now as my mandatory update is complete, I am a happy Pilot.

This is the first time I encountered update download issue.

Now I have also experienced the frustration of being blocked by a mandatory update that doesn’t go well

is there a new update???

My updates are typically at 800 Mbps, give or take 100 Mbps.

I just installed a new system drive on my flight sim computer, with a fresh install of Windows 10, so I had to do a full reinstall of MSFS. It took just over 2 hours for 120GB at the full 100 MB interconnection speed my ISP provides.

This has always been the case since the Alpha. I have never had any problems with slow downloads, file looping or other problems some users have experienced. If there was a general issue with the MSFS content servers having low bandwidth, I would expect to have seen some sign of it, but I never have.

In at least one instance where a user with a fast internet connection was seeing very low download speeds for MSFS, he was able to determine that his ISP was externally throttling his connection to the content servers, apparently seeing the stream as some kind of illegal torrent.

I do use a wired Ethernet connection, have a top-line router optimized for streaming (Netgear RAX80), use a static IP address on my flight sim PC, and use Google’s DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) in my computer’s Ethernet settings.

Seeing how slow it is for some folks, I certainly have no right to complain. The last update was 21GB for me, and most of it downloaded at 300-400 Mbits on my 1Gbit fibre connection. It’s odd that it doesn’t seem to use my full bandwidth though. When I download and install games via Steam, uPlay, Origin, etc, those downloads will fully saturate my gigabit bandwidth.

Finally I figured out the issue. It was on my side. My bad!

Culprit was the USB network adapter, gone bad, that sometimes worked fine and then dropping off in between.

Now that I replaced USB adapter with PCIe WiFi 6 adapter card, I validated continuity and also ISP speed of @400 mbps. I was able to download recent update with no issue.

Also replaced old Router to new WiFi 6 router.

“Around 3 petabytes” was mentioned during last Dev Update
