Hey guys, since SU5 I’m thinking of upgrading to a 24 inch 1440p monitor from a 24 inch 1080p. Has anyone made this jump before and if so, how do you find the sim in 1440 in both performance but also importantly the visual quality difference?
i would prefer 27" for 1440p … upgrading from 1080p is basically 1,8 times the resolution. So that should be helping for a rough estimation on what performance hit to expect.
I upgraded to a 27’’ 1440p from 1080p. Here are a couple of things to consider:
As previously pointed out, the resolution is multiplied, and it can come at a performance cost. You’ll need a semi-good GPU to run 1440p at higher settings. I personally have a 2080Super, and I get 60fps with a mix of ultra/high settings. The sim will look crisper, especially gauges/instruments.
1440p monitors can be pricey, and you’ll want to find one with a high refresh rate (144hz) which tends to make them more expensive. My monitor was over $400. The sim will look better with 1440p; however, you’ll have to decide whether the gain is worth it for the price. I personally noticed a difference with 1440p compared to 1080p. Was it worth the extra cash? To me, it was.
@N417ZS Thanks for your response mate, I’ve got about 500 australia bucks to splash and I’ve found some good 27 inch monitors in that range (found out I can in fact fit 27 on my desk).
I love playing on 34" 1440p ultra-wide but that might be out of your range in australia dollars. If you keep your existing monitor you can use it for atc & vfr and the cockpit on your new monitor. That’s what I do.
I went from 1080p to 1440. Bought the Lenovo Legion y27q-20. Great monitor and I’m happy with it. I only run a 1660ti GPU. My settings are mostly ‘high’ with 1 or 2 on ultra and a few on medium. I keep render scaling at 100 and the other two LOD sliders at 150. Even over the cities like NY or LA I have no real issues. I was running 38fps over Nyc after the update at 1500’
