2020 & 2024 on Same PC

Hi all,
I’m sure this might have been asked before but if you have 2020 installed and want to install 2024 on the same Pc, do both sims remain as two separate individual programs?

I have 2020 set up just as I like it complete with my add on aircraft and airports etc but if I install 2024 further into 2025 will it pick up that 2020 is installed and merge items ?
I’m well aware that 2024 has a few issues so just want to make sure that when I come to install it my 2020 will stay intact.

it has been indeed been asked before, and putting that question into the search bar would already have yielded you the answer you are seeking

They are completely separate. I had FS2020 fully functional when I installed FS2024 on the same computer (same drive, in fact.) I can choose to play either version, and neither overlaps or interferes with the other. The Community folders are separate as well. I haven’t tried it, but I’m pretty sure you can copy add-ons from your 2020 folder to the 2024 folder. Whether the addon works depends on its individual compatibility with the new 2024 code.

You can.

Actually, I use MSFS Addon Linker to select which items I want in either Community folder (or both). All of my sceneries work equally well in both sim, though there are a few which have released FS2024 versions already (e.g, iniBuilds’ KPSP). Aircraft are hit or miss, however - some work great, others have issues, and some just don’t work right ast all in ‘24. But having separate Community folders for each sim means you can decide for yourself which items to use with which sim.

I use Addons Linker as well. So far all I’ve linked in FS2024 is my G36 Bonanza Improvement Project, but that’s because I’m focused on SPAD and my FSR500 (which was purchased on the Marketplace and thus is not in Community.)

I think I had 100 things linked in my FS2020 Addons Linker, and I’ll definitely start slowly adding them into FS2024 as I go.

I’m a big fan of AOL. In fact, I call it “Must Have.”
I didn’t want to assume that you could just copy things directly from the 2020 Community to the 2024 Community, since I haven’t actually tried it.

This new sim surprises me every day with things I think should work one way, but work another - or not at all…

That’s great just what I wanted to know thanks for the reply :+1:

If someone already starts his topic with something like ‘I know it must have been asked before’ then he’s just too lazy to look for himself.
A forum isn’t meant to be a support hotline. A tiny little bit of research should be invested by anyone. All the time people have spent here helping people over the past 5 years is available as an archive and it takes no more effort than a Google Search to find most things you need.

Opening a new topic and expecting every answer to be be served on a silver platter is obnoxious and entitled behaviour, and I don’t support it. So YES I actually feel good about having written that. If that makes me an XXX in your eyes I can live with it.
