Appreciate its a controversial subject to talk about weather in the sim, but just to say , the weather is not the same in all direction in AS (unless the weather actually is).
Often I see clouds and storns ahead, clear behind etc etc. I much prefer the depiction of the weather in AS - the downside is it has to transition a times as Asoobo dont allow acces to the API. But for what they have and how they do it - I used AS all the time now.
Seems people saying weather is all the same in all directions are just repeating nonsense.
As mhmaliniak said, weather is not the same in all directions, unless it really is :D.
For me weather depiction in AS is better than msfs live weather so Iâll keep using it.
There may be gaps in the weather and transitions happening from one direction, but the model repeats the same metar weather around the globe at one time. It does not have the ability to depict different weather in the same sky.
Meaning you canât fly from one weather system to another, as you are always inside the one weather system?
That should be easy to show with some very high altitude shots. I expect at that altitude it would look quite homogenous.
Let me ask you this, do you fly around the globe at the same time?
This conversation about the same weather âaround the globeâ is tiresome.
Why do you care about the weather that you donât see, you canât see, you will never see, while flying at the current position?
This really does look bad sorry. Like something had been disabled or simplified in the global lighting model. Straight out of FSX days. Iâm not trying to offend. I just want to point out what is still wrong since SU5.
Also no rain lines visible in the air, just drops on the ground. The lines only show up in direct light such as nearby aircraft lights and lightning strikes.
As for ActiveSky, of course the active weather depiction is going to repeat in all directions. Itâs a preset generator. When you see clouds ahead of you and clear skies behind, that is just a gap in the noise map. Those clouds in the distance are not accurate. By the time you reach them the next preset would most likely have been loaded in. It simply takes the local weather conditions and expands them globally.
i just picked up as yesterday. here are a handful of thoughts that may be of interest.
(1) like everyone has been saying, transitions are the one hangup with the application. it has no way to generate a front 100nm in your direction of travel so you wonât really get the weather until you get to that spot.
(2) i have found the cloud depictions to be more pleasing in as. msfs has one type of cloud that it generates and i didnât realize how boring that was (albeit beautiful at times) until i saw other types of clouds.
(3) i know this canât be / shouldnât be the primary reason for getting something like as, but the fluidity of the airmass youâre flying in is so well done. everything feels way more alive to me and dealing with turbulence is actually quite fun.
i am happy with my $30 purchase and i look forward to seeing what the developer continues to innovate on.
I am sooooooo close to grabbing this. I had AS for XPlane and it was essential for good weather.
The ONLY thing that I canât really deal with is harsh cloud transitions⊠and unfortunately that seems to be the one thing that people are reporting that is stopping me from getting this. If clouds âpop inâ during a flight itâs quite an immersion killer - especially in VR when you really do feel like you are flying for real. I think the MSFS standard clouds are ok enough. And the fact that they transition quite naturally is one of the things I like about MSFS weather.
Not sure why Iâm posting this
I guess I am looking for someone to convince me that the weather transitions arenât that bad and cloud âpop-inâ is smoother than I think it is⊠lolâŠ
Anyway, hope this product continues to improve like it did when I was using it for XPlane.

My guess is it looked so good back then as there wasnât anything really like what we have now with live weather to compare it to.
I donât have those instant cloud transitions, also VR.
So done! ![]()
Iâm in the same boat. I have an itchy trigger finger. Hovered over the BUY button a few times and backed out.
I think you can control a lot of the settings so you could make transitions MUCH slower if you donât care about being in exactly the right METAR at any given time, and accept a slower transition to the new one. But I am not sure if that then means you will have mismatching visuals to actual effects of turbulence, wind etc. Or do those kick in all of a sudden at some half-way point of the chosen transition duration?
Seems to be really mixed (polarised) reviews and impressions from different people.
I am thinking at the end of the day, the only way to find out will be to press the finger down on that buy button after all and see for myself. Or try X-Enviro as itâs a bit cheaper and looks to do almost the same! Itâs not exactly expensive though, right? But I could get another new plane instead! And I wonder if this will be needed or not even work at all in 2024.
I care because it ruins the immersion to always have the same weather in all directions, until it changes to another set of the same weather in all directions.
New beta
Update 052024 - B8906 (1.0.8906.36270)
- New turbulence injection method for better normalization between different setups, aircraft and frame rates
- New turbulence unpredictability with calm and variable intensity states, for more realistic and organic experience
- New cloud turbulence with MSFS ambient in-cloud detection and cloud turbulence for all cloud types and coverages in both Preset and Passive modes
- Added new Bypass Proxy option (general) to attempt to allow users using VPN/proxy to bypass proxy server/network (default off) â updated documentation
- Reduced random light chop approximately 50% in general occurrence rate per feedback
- Reduced roll rotational effect in turbulence approximately 15% as per feedback
- Reduced yaw effect in turbulence approximately 20% as per feedback
- Adjusted turbulence effect for additional translational (âbumpâ) effect strength and reduced rotational effect strength as per feedback
- Adjusted wake turbulence to normalize effect based on latest turbulence/air effects changes
- Adjusted surface turbulence to result in higher occurrence of turbulence overall when winds are > calm
- Adjusted visibility graduation to occur at higher altitudes (4000-9000ft agl vs. 0-3000ft agl)
- Prevented turbulence effect during paused/in-menu states (could cause strange effects and aircraft instability when unpausing)
- Removed sigmet/airmet outside-boundary âvicinity influenceâ to contain influence to within the specific boundaries defined only
- Reduced potential inter-sigmet/airmet turbulence occurrence (so less total area of defined sigmet area contains actual turbulence as described)
- Changed realism mode turbulence scale factor to 50 (vs 60), easy mode changed to 30 (vs 20) - updated documentation
- Fixed issue with Force Low Humidity in High Vis option where it would not properly disable/persist
- Fixed issue with improper Chinese language units conversions resulting in improper temps and wind speeds
having owned rex weather since forever ago, i will tell you thereâs one nice setting in as that i really like. you can instruct the application to pause injection when youâre near your destination airport. i canât tell you how many times i was in my final phase of flight and rex would slam new weather on me and it was horrible.

i wouldnât try to talk anyone into buying the software because i know itâs super subjective but i have been happy with it so far - albeit i had to make peace with potentially abrupt changes to the weather.
one other thing that i still need to investigate. you can input your flight plan (import from simbrief or just add dep/des and planned cruise altitude). i think this actually smooths things out, but it might the placebo effect kicking in.
anyhow, this software is definitely going to fall into the category of ymmv!
heck yes! i had to step away from my pc last night for a few minutes so i paused my flight. when i came back and unpaused i was immediately thrown into an upset recovery exercise. this is great news and i am very happy the dev is actively updating the application
you and i share the same disease. i kept going back and forth on this until i finally decided to yolo it. ![]()
How does it know? You have to load a flight plan into it? I often fly âfollowing my noseâ so I guess that would not really work for me.
Anyways if I bought this it would only really be for when Iâm touring a city, not for longer legs or group flights in live weather, so the âpresetâ approach would not bother me. I just want it to look more interesting and varied. Sounds like that is ideal?
i fly that way a lot as well. for the flight plan i would just add a destination thatâs somewhere in the vicinity of where youâre going and an alternate in another direction.
i flew from egmd â eghd yesterday. the weather was pretty similar along the entire route so there were no changes.
this morning i did a hop from kfll â mynn. there were some small changes along the route. flight started with some low hanging clouds (bkn) over the florida coast but things cleared up enroute. as i approached my destination i ended up with some small clouds low and a nice layer up around fl200.
hereâs what the flightplan box looks like in the application:
that was imported from simbrief but you can edit all the values above by hand and just go fly. alternatively you can just go fly without putting anything in the flightplan page. again, i need to dive into the manual to see if this actually impacts wx injection or not
