Awesome. The algorithm that can’t distinguish between night and day or left and right will be in charge of your career progress and decide which missions you can fly.
Hope a mod will be out by November 20 turning this nonsense off and make missions available without suffering through the career steps.
The obligatory disclaimer: no, I don’t want to take away your career mode, have fun with it, just let others do the missions without it.
In the sim, there are many parking spots and active runway start points at either end.
NAS Alameda still has its runways. The sim even generated a windsock for it. I landed there today, for nostalgia’s sake.
EDIT:
There is some semblance of a runway still present in these satellite photos, so rough ungroomed dirt probably isn’t an accurate representation, either.
Was watching a few of the livestreams this weekend and noticed that the HOLD SHORT objective box after landing seems to be placed on the wrong side of the double lines at runway exits (e.g., before clearing the active).
Since this is a pretty basic piloting practice, really hope it gets corrected in the final release otherwise the “training” will be reinforcing blatantly incorrect procedure.
I’d reached a similar point, now at nearly $8b, but have now created an employee character, which started at Captain level and has the benefit of sharing access to the bank account and aircraft of the main, Boss, character account.
As the number of XP required to get to Senior Captain from Captain, is a fair jump, it still provides a reason to collect those XP.
Ultimately, you could also just start again, perhaps taking a different route or in a different location(s).
The vast majority of my money has been created by the AI pilots though, so the MSFS career mode, without AI pilots, would probably need to have more generous payouts for player missions flown, otherwise, it’s going to take ages to even afford a C172.
I LOVED IT! I say right now before the potential credits I’ll probably end up having to pay out for repairs. Realisms on is a must. But. Oh! Brother! lol.
I know my clients today were Taylor Swift and her Football fiancée in disguise. You can’t fool me.
The Photo Camera has me taking more photos than the NPC’s. And. Wanting an office or hangar to start displaying good ones.
Will there be good and unique shwag items to buy/earn at some locations? I hope so. And. Want to display those too.
Markets? I hope so. I didn’t get that far.
The Caravan was a great early choice in NEOFLY4 to make the first ‘decent’ money doing cargo runs and for leveraging the market to buy low sell high.
SKYVAN could potentially also be a very SMART choice.
Neofly also had random Gold & Relic hunts that would pop up every 24 hrs.
Also: Missions that were generated by real world ‘situations’ and ‘emergency’.
Seeing the cut of credits the reps take for each job ought to inspire anyone to go ‘company’ at some point.
career mode is one of the things im looking forward to the most and was happy to see just how deep it got by the looks of it, multiple companies, managing finances per each one, custom liveries? really didn’t expect so much
I realllllly hope we get some more granular difficulty settings for career though, I sort of hate that it became some marketing thing for the preview that career mode = a mode for ‘casual’ players, “REAL flight simmers just play free flight” - I’m interested in a lot of realism, ive put hours into learning payware airliners and helicopters without assists and I don’t like assists, I love programming avionics and flightplans my self - I like career mode for the ‘roleplay’ and to give extra content and ‘reasons’ to fly but i don’t want it to be a casual experience: I really didn’t quite like that everything is checklisted and it seems like there was no way to turn things off like the blue brackets in the sky and such, I definitely think it’d be much improved with settings for difficulty like others have mentioned (im fine with letting people choose to have it easy, I just don’t wanna be given step by step instructions which are basically really hard to fail)
again I realize it’s not representative so maybe this stuff is all coming but I’d love to be able to adjust difficulty and assists for career mode, would much rather be given a looser set of instructions and then have to program waypoints into avionics in order to get a path to fly instead of just ‘go to blue brackets’ type stuff, obviously I would assume we’d have the confusing instructions and things that don’t line up fixed too, I don’t think that’s a huge, terrible and worrying issue, it clearly had some bugs but I don’t think mission stages/instructions not lining up is intentional, im sure it’s something they’d wanna fix
I’ve done over 20 missions thus far, and the payout has been the same. I had thought like you about increasing payments, but it hasn’t this far. At this rate it would take 4,545 missions to unlock the Airline bubble. That is not even including the unlocks needed prior to that. To put that into further perspective it would take 68k mins to get 2.5m XP.
Part of me wonders if the Career Mode is/was designed to replace the flight lessons that exist in 2020 and that is why it is so heavily assisted, as such.
I purposely didn’t delve too deeply into the Career Mode, because I want to save that experience for final release (that and my time this weekend was needed to be spent with family members at home). I was hoping that deeper into the experience that these assists would go away.
My experience, with the mere handful of missions I did, was it ended at the destination and I, again, took off from my base for the next one. I saw no way to chain missions together.
I wasn’t even able to fully complete shutting down the aircraft. Once the engine was cut, it ended the mission nearly immediately.
I greatly prefer the NeoFly model of being able to pickup another mission and fly out of where I landed. I also prefer how I would have to ferry my own aircraft to a different airport to be able to pick up a mission from that airport instead.
From what I saw, you initially start with a zone around your starting airport where you can do basic missions. As you unlock mission types (ferry and tourist flights) it unlocked other areas.
As this was an alpha build, it may be different on release.
I really enjoyed the career mode, but Asobo should think about accessibility. I flew the Cessna with the keyboard and it was horrible, I even crushed the Cessna when landing lol.
If the goal of the career mode is to attract a new audience as well, it’s better to think about supporting flying with the mouse since most of those who will be attracted to this mode probably won’t have a joystick.
I even tried to configure the mouse for the elevator and aileron axes, but it’s totally imprecise.
It should have been in FS2020 by now, in FSX it worked so well…
you know in regards to wear and tear I am sure they will have that implemented, as you can check gear, wheels, engine oil, flaps, rudder, etc in the tech alpha that we just had. have to keep in mind the tech alpha was pretty bare bones to test what they were wanting information from which was the following.
Content streaming
Player inventory
Authentication
Career mode
Challenges and missions
Data storage
World and world map
Multiplayer services
Weather
with that said not sure what they mean by player inventory as I did not notice any inventory during my play time other than of course the credits that you have, earn, and spend for the licenses during the career mode. maybe they mean that you can have a player inventory of replacement parts for your aircraft like wheels, flaps, etc and if you do not have any in stock but need them you have to pay a marked up price to get whatever ASAP rather than having it available right away at your base.
I hope that aircraft maintenance is truly highly in-depth as well as aircraft failures being truly random instead of the old ways that it was went about where we had to choose what we were going to have fail and a timeline for it to fail. meaning we already knew what was going to happen and that from perspective it was not random and unknown to us.
I wish during the tech alpha that I played with the custom weather but alas I did not I did play with live weather and a preset weather condition though. I really loved the change in aircraft handling when low level flight around hills, mountains, etc where you can feel the handling difference of the air currents effects on your aircraft like what happens IRL.
