2024 Career Mode

I love that you are still at it and reporting your experiences.

They are an excellent read.

Just completely borked lol. I flew the first sight seeing circle at idle and couldn’t keep the plane under the 82 knot requirement. I was able to fly the next circle at idle with half flaps and hold the requirements. I hit 150 knots in level flight on the trip back to the airport, and had to idle, and do a steep spiral with full opposite rudder again to get it down to the runway. Must have been a massive updraft glitch in the weather. The passengers were bitchign the entire time, “go slower, I can’t see anything”, “if you can’t fly smoothly, get me back on the ground”, and then they lied to dispatch as soon as we got on the ground and said they loved it and would go again immediately lol.

Crazier weather than the tornado chasing mission that’s for sure.

Skip, have you unlocked the IFR rating yet?

What were the wind speeds you were seeing in the flight?

I have, but the weather definitely didn’t match live conditions either. Flight seeing missions have always featured benign weather for me, regardless of real world conditions.

KFSD 042256Z 32023G39KT 10SM FEW025 FEW250 M08/M16 A3016 RMK AO2 PK WND 31040/2240 SLP235 T10831156

I definitely wasn’t getting those winds, or any significant (non-vertical) winds during the mission.

I still wonder if in the flight seeing missions, that somehow the winds are near-zeroed out in terms of how it affects your ground track, but somehow the turbulence effects, including updrafts and downdrafts, are still in place.

Those missions are basically turns around a point ground-reference maneuvers, but if they used real-world wind like what you’re seeing there, the bank angles required to maintain a constant radius on the the downwind part of the circle would be atrocious. They didn’t teach anybody anything about that in the lessons, so I’m guessing they nerfed it, but forgot to make it not affect turbulence.

And I think the same thing is happening in the pre-IFR ticket modes.

I reflew the same mission type from the same airport two more times. The issue did not reproduce. Each time the weather was different, seemingly a nice day, but randomly generated. I’m guessing in the randomly generated parameters, an updraft parameter was erroneously set way too high, causing conditions that felt very much like ridge with strong upslope laminar flow. It wasn’t turbulent as I could pretty smoothly hold speeds close to vne on the way back to the airport. It felt exactly like when I’m ridge soaring in the sim off the coast of Chile and a 30 knot westerly is going right up the sea cliffs. Upslope of course doesn’t make sense over Sioux Falls. All I can guess is that it just randomly generated something wacky.

This was a click-bait headline because that’s what modern life has taught me thus far, but Career Mode is broken. I spent 75 hours on it, and while there is tremendous promise in grinding out missions, the major aircraft technical issues, not being given enough fuel to complete missions, and even getting dinged for flying through Restricted Airspace (despite the route given to me had me flying that way) make it impossible to enjoy. I dabbled even with Freelance Company Mode where after ONE flight, I required over 20,000 credits to repair my X-Cub landing gear because I landed it somewhat firmly [as graded by the sim - but I found it to be an average landing], so I was given an “Out-of-Service” penalty. What does that mean? Well, I needed to pay up to get back flying again, no questions asked. For perspective 20,000 credits usually requires about 3 hours of your time.

I think the way they have it set up to grind is the way to go. I support that. Practically every other game, gamers play, requires a grind. Despite 75 hours, I am still 7 flights away from achieving Cargo Heavy but after experiencing some horrific “sim to blame” technical issues trying to fly the Pilatus PC12, a wonky grading system, and a few crash to desktops because of broken code - I am done grinding Career Mode.

Here I am calling a fuel truck because my trek from South Korea all the way to northern China would be a long one, particularly because I needed to stay clear of Pyongyang’s airspace and the heavily restricted DMZ: but the truck came by and drove off without adding an ounce of fuel. WTF

I haven’t been getting those updrafts lately - I only got them in the very early stages of career mode.

I grinded for three days, getting the 172 in my own company doing light cargo, and finally bought the Caravan, and during my first mission in the Caravan (medium cargo) in it I had an emergency (real life with my disabled wife so it took precedence) and had to abort the mission.

I got back home to see a lovely message that my crew had earned like 11k, but lost way more and now I am negative 38k in my company.

I tried an employee mission but the credits do not affect my company balance.

I cannot sell the Caravan nor move my 172 to do a light cargo mission to get me out of the hole. I am stuck.

I just want to sell the Caravan and save up for the Vision Jet and do passenger missions.

The missions are so bugged that I refuse to start over if I have to reset my carrer mode.

Thank you for any help.

What do I need to do, I find nothing on the matter with internet wide searches?

You cannot say that the “work” with professionals did not happen. I think perhaps you could see they should have included more realism. I can guarantee that they did have reviews with professionals to understand the various jobs for career mode.

After seeing a new patch i returned back to the show and finally purchased the C208B, happily flew one cargo mission. Earned enough to repair the aircraft (2nd hand) and there is no medium cargo mission in Europe.

Not in Central Europe, Germany, Netherlands, Italy only light cargo missions. Something is just saying to me, if you wanna fly in carrier then C172 is the only way.

I don’t even wan’t to comment that there is no filter options and both light and medium cargo missions has same colour and icon only option how to distinguish between them is by pay amount. Light cargo around 6k and Medium around 30k but the amount you will receive is much higher, I got for example over 800k for that medium cargo.

I am just confused. If i start carrier in OnAir for example, i have tons of information, filters, proper employees (to whom i can assign and schedule flights). I can generate a job myself if i don’t like the existing one. I can filter jobs based on departure/arrival, job type, distance. It even has simbrief integration.

Not to mention FOB’s, proper Companies with people, hence i can even buy a second hand aircraft from a real person or lease it to somebody if i am not using it.

Well I just did the starred medium cargo flight to Miyake, Japan. The winds were so intense I could not control the aircraft to save my life. Insane vertical pitching. I got it down once, but on roll-out was then rolled and pitched forward triggering a crash. I went around several times because I was just blown completely off the runway. I got it down another time, but then was lofted back into the air, stalled, and couldn’t save it initiating the go around. After crashing two more times and a couple more go-arounds, I was finally like F it, and landed straight into the wind, using the width of the runway, the taxiway, and the ramp. It was ugly, but I got it down and stopped. Not sure if it’s supposed to be that hard. It wasn’t just the crosswind, it was the most incredible turbulence I’ve seen in the sim. The 208 was like a leaf in a hurricane.

At least you have a story to share with other pilots. Isn’t that a win ?

I am certain this guy will also have a story to share.

The C208 seems to be having some severe Dutch Roll since the patch that caused Career Mode to crash for players or the server-side fix to repair that CTD issue.

Flying with Yaw Damper [Y/D] on seems to help, hopefully it gets fixed soon.

EDIT: Here is a Bug Report about the issue.

Just use the Add Fuel keybind

That’s crazy. I did the same flight yesterday and it was totally fine. I even think that flight is supposed to be completely on rails. Why are you (and some others) getting that crazy behavior? What bug is rolling that into your sim but not others?

So should I get start VIP company in a cessna or keep grinding cargo and save up for the Caravan?

It’s like rolling a dice. In Charter you will have awesome ATC commanding you to Follow pattern, fly to final and then climb FL180.

Maybe coincidental, but the real world winds here in IL were similar to what I was getting in the sim in Japan. A 30 knot northwesterly gusting to 45 knots. In the sim, these winds were causing extreme downsloping turbulence on the leeward side of the Misyake volcano. Maybe it’s randomly generated nonsense. Maybe it’s loading the weather from the wrong location.
