As stated in the title, after upgrading to 2024, my FPS has become very low. Compared to MFS2020 in the same scenario, my FPS is only around 20, while MFS2020 has at least 40 or more
My configuration is an R7-6800H, RTX3060 6GB, 64GB DDR5 RAM, and SN850X SSD laptop
At the same time, I also want to disable ground transportation (including AI aircraft) because it puts a huge strain on the CPU, but I can’t find a way to do it
If someone can provide me with assistance, I would be deeply grateful
Exactly the same for me on 5800x3d + 4070ti. 50% FPS loss compared to 2020.
VR in 2020 is buttery smooth, in 2024 its nearly unusable.
That’s the same for me indeed. I5 10600K / 3070 / 32GB. Lost easily half of the FPS.
I have amd ryzen 7940hs, rtx 4070 laptop, and 16 gb of ram. I get 50-60 fps when I spawn in the air (sometimes it crashes to 20-30 fps) but I get 5-10 fps when I spawn at the airport. what’s the problem?
same here Ive got a top of the shelf pc with latest top of the line hardware and Im running even with Frame generation only around 50 fps ingame
Yes this. I was getting 7fps in the career mode tutorials in a 172. This even with the dynamic FPS set to 30. How can that be?
7800X3D 64GB, 3060 12GB. 3840x1080.
On 2020 I had ultra settings, TAA, native render resolution. I had clouds on high. On the same settings MSFS 2024 was much worse.
I did try turning off the ray traced shadows, that seemed to help a bit but I’m going to have to spend more time on it another day to try and get it working right.
At least the lossless scaling tool still worked to double my 7 fps to 15.
Same here, from steady 45± FPS to 20 FPS in MSFS 2024. With very same settings, very same scenarios
same here, not the most powerfull rig, but i can barley do 30 FPS in any scenario…
Its not just the launch that was bad, but the sim itself doesnt feel polished, and it honestly feels like a step back in time to the early days or even the tech alpha days of MSFS2020. I thought with what they learned from there, the launch of FS2024 would be smooth and polished, guess i was wrong.
For me at least, FS2024 is good for some GA flying, low and slow and thats about it, stick to FS2020 for some in depth airline flying…
I was getting 60-90 FPS with airliners in MSFS 2020. I’m now only getting 9 FPS with the same addons in MSFS 2024, Career mode seems fine, but free flight with Airliners is just completely unusable
I have 4060 ti and found FPS dropped by about 40% in 2024 compared to 2020 for no obvious benefit. And that was after dropping my settings from 2020’s Ultra to only High in 2024. I also noticed that Nvidia’s DLSS and frame generation doesn’t generate much improvement in 2024. In 2020 enabling both of these doubled my FPS compared to TAA. In 2024 enabling both of these only gave a small or sometimes no improvement over TAA. It almost like turning these on only enables the tick box in the graphics screen, but doesn’t actually activate them.
Why is my mainthread frametime doubling when I enable low latency (ON)?
also going from 2020 to 2024 Ive had to decrease my settings from High/Ultra to Medium.
Using 14700K, 64gig @ 6000Mhz and 4080S.
What happened to being better optimalized.
I’ve also seen a drastic reduction in FPS between 2020 & 2024. In 2020, I could fly the Fenix and get 25-30 FPS in the most detailed custom airports. This is on a triple monitor setup with a 3080 and mostly High settings. In 2024, I’ve had to downgrade to Medium settings just to get 20 FPS in an ultralight in rural Arkansas. This is a drastic performance downgrade. I’ll try to load up same plane & airport for comparison tonight, but I doubt an airliner would even be playable.
I think it may be caused by video memory overflow, because DX12 has a huge demand for video memory.
For users with less video memory, we need DX11
Okay, I just completed a comparison test between MSFS 2020 vs MSFS 2024. I have a triple monitor setup with a 3080 card. I used the G1000 Cessna 172 at H34 airport for both tests. My graphics settings are a bit higher in MSFS 2020, with most settings at High and the LODs set to 150, whereas in MSFS 2024 the LODs are set at 100.
MSFS 2020 FPS - 43
MSFS 2024 FPS - 7
I decided to test MSFS 2024 with a single monitor, which increased the frames to 21 fps, which is still half of what I’m getting with MSFS 2020 with 3 monitors and higher settings. I’m at a loss for now, as this is completely unplayable.
I’ll chime in here now that I’ve had a chance to gauge performance. MSFS2024 is clearly more CPU demanding, period. On MSFS2020, my 14900KS would rarely exceed 20% total usage. On MSFS2024, it’s now at least 35%. You can see this in obvious CPU load, as well as package power now a whopping constant 180W. I’ve also noticed the CPU load is now far more constant, whereas in MSFS2020 it would need to vary a lot with the background.
I feel for you guys getting poor performance, but you may need to adjust some settings to get the CPU load under control. I haven’t verified if it’s the same for MSFS2024, but terrain LOD is by far the biggest impact on CPU usage.
However, performance for me (even with frame gen enabled) is roughly the same as MSFS2020. I don’t think it’s quite accurate to say MSFS2024 is worse performance than MSFS2020. Rather, it’s clearly more demanding that MSFS2020 and could result in far worse performance with certain hardware setups, particularly low-end.
I have low frame rate 10-12fbs with 16Gb ram. It was even worse until I set up a rolling cache 300Gb in external USB drive. Graphics set to minimums.
I’m sure my 7800X3D is capable of doing much more than 2024 is getting out of it. 2020 was better even with the main thread bottleneck that is supposed to be resolved now.
Enable the FPS overlay in Devmode and paste here. I noticed my 4090 gets hit harder on MSFS, so you might have increased frame time on your 3060 that’s causing the performance hit. You would see a big increase in the GPU frametime if this is the case.
But yea, you’re right. I’d expect the 7800X3D to be more than sufficient.
Ditto, I have a high end rig and was slow. I never had to mess with graphics settings in 2020. Maybe this thread can develop some best practices/settings.
If it helps I stopped the overclocking option in the Nvidia app. Pressed restore and looks great.
