I’m slowly getting worn down by 2024. Seems like on every flight lately, I’ve got the “melted buildings” syndrome. From altitude, the sim looks great but once you are down low, it’s terrible. My last flight was the worst, flying into KORD, the entire Chicago skyline was distorted. As I got lower, it got worse. See below. If I changed my direction of view, it took 5 seconds for the buildings (such as they are) and terrain features to populate. I’ve got a PC that should be able to run this sim in Ultra. What am I doing wrong here? My rolling cache is set at 160 gb if that matters. I know that the sim streams in scenery, is there any tool available to see if my internet connection is problematic (I’ve got a high-speed service and have never had any issues playing on line games while my family is streaming movies, etc). Any assistance is appreciated. I bought a new PC specifically to enjoy 2024 and I’m almost at the point of just calling it quits on flight simming in general, which is pretty heartbreaking considering how much I really enjoyed 2020.
Try turning off photogrammetry, then restart the simulator.
I’ll give it a shot. Will that result in all 3-D objects simply not populating?
I read somewhere that setting a large rolling cache actually is detrimental, is there an ideal size for this?
Thanks!
I’m finding this pretty frustrating too! Any ideas on how to improve things would be very welcome.
turn off photogrammerty guys looks much better as i had the same problem in 2024 and 2020…the photogrammerty is a pile of cow dung
This is totally normal for photogrammetry
Do you have ‘dynamic settings’ enabled in graphics options?
If so, turn it off and set ‘terrain level of detail’ manually. Start with 200 and see how that works in terms of quality vs performance.
For the issue when turning the camera, try increasing ‘off screen caching’ or whatever it’s called.
A mix of autogen and custom scenery for cities is way better than photogrammetry in my opinion. I really am hoping they improve the autogen over the next year or two or improve the photogrammetry if that is the route they want to take.
Same here, melted buildings. Few days ago I flied over LA, only few buildings were good, others melted. Flied over NY, building looks good, not that good, but at least they are not melted.
Banja Luka, Sarajevo, Munich and all other I flied over, are melted.
Some buildings looks better than othery, but far from normal looking.
That happened in FS2020, but not always.
Worst part are photogrametry trees, they look more like stone pilars and big cut stones than trees.
I hope this will be solved soon.
This is not a big picture when I fly commercial flights, they are mostly far away from buildings, but when I fly GA at low alts, than it looks bad.
In FS2020, Banja Luka and Munich I flied near my friends building, I could see their windows very nice.
I did but then you just get a random collection of generic “McBuildings”. Works for airports I’m not familiar with but for ones I am, that’s just as much of an immersion killer for me as the melted buildings was. How frustrating.
Yeah but then (unless you limit your flying to a couple of areas), you’ll end up with 500 gb of custom cities (not to mention a pretty good dent in your checking account).
Yea, this is also true, hopefully, they put some time into the autogen to improve.
