2024 - Pilot active outside the Cockpit - Interactive walk around

My hope is that there will be an option to spawn outside the plane when loading in and savestate so it will remember the pitot covers and doors open/closed etc.

I‘d say it already does if you keep in mind some of the really detailed and animated airport or scenery packages available for MSFS 2020. Might not be feasible on a larger scale like villages. But I guess quite possible for things like national parks, holiday resorts. Will be interesting to see how hard that hits the performance. But while you are walking around there is no need to calculate flight dynamics and stuff like that, freeing up resources.

Ah yes of course, detailed airports will be very cool to walk around. I was more thinking about actual trails (with signs and smaller landmarks along the trail) and maybe smaller airports with more of the surroundings and very detailed interiors.

National parks and resorts could also be interesting yes. Just imagine a tropical island resort where you can leave your water plane and walk around the area. Just like this:

To make this work I think they will need to make extra LOD levels for being on the ground and being on foot. So all the extra detailed objects will be only visible when on the ground or on foot.

@phantomlord08 You might want to take a look at Arma Reforger. While it’s a military game, I’ve been also using it to just drive around with a car and explore. You can create a mission with the built-in editor and just place yourself in an empty map. It’s very moddable, so you can also find lots of things like cars and new maps.

thanks for sharing this video. I’m blown away by the quality of waves and nature in general (did I see butterflies and fireflies??). This confirms that the new frontier in simulation is expanding the experience beyond your vehicle’s doors and I’m all for it.

Yeah it has a lush living environment. But to be fair ARMA is more an FPS with vehicles instead of a vehicle simulator with a walking function. Yet you can see them grow towards each other more and more. I’m really curious to how far MSFS 2024 can get towards these environments.

From what we can see in the trailers they might actually be able to get quite far, although it will of course never reach the levels of a handcrafted world like in ARMA. That said MSFS will feature a much more diverse environment and I would have been very keen already on having the walking feature in MSFS 2020. I even loved walking around back in MS Flight.

Joerg say you can walk everywhere around the world. No limitations!

I can picture developers like //42 creating a new category of addons (a new form of their ‘Scenes’ collection) specialized in avatar interaction and activities outside the aircraft.

stumbled upon another great example of what developers are doing in terms of interactive worlds:

For those wondering what Asobo is capable of in terms of human avatars interacting in a world, this is their product “A Plague’s Tale: Requiem” for Xbox and Windows (,and Playstation, :face_with_raised_eyebrow:, hmmm, you know, Microsoft is… (I imagine not likely though, given the required integration MSFS across Microsoft’s ecosystem)), from 2022…

This ain’t their first rodeo.

great game
