Last week I bought a new system which I want to use with my newly ordered Pimax Crystal.
After a lengthy attempt to properly install Windows 11, I bought a new copy of MSFS 2020 in the MS store. It did not work. I tried to report this as a bug, but my post was moved away by the forum admin.
I then opened a case with Zendesk which just confirmed that there’s probably nothing wrong with MSFS but with the Xbox app installation. The issue could not be solved with their suggestions.
I then went out to buy a new boxed copy of MSFS 2020 and hoping to get a refund on my MS Store purchase. But even though I had uninstalled MSFS in the Xbox app I could not install the boxed version because it kept claiming that MSFS was still installed.
So completely new installation of WIndows 11 pro.
The boxed MSFS can now start the installation but wait… DVD #7 was broken, so the installation failed after somewhat over 2 hours. Luckily I still have the DVDs from my old system. So starting installation again. After about 3-4 hours I get to the point where I want to redeem the code from the boxed version. Which does not work with a message that I already own MSFS. Now I have to wait about 72 hours for MS to decide whether to give me a refund for the MS Store MSFS version that does not start on my system.
Is there any way that I can get my boxed version of MSFS to work before that ? I really want to start using my Pimax Crystal which is the reason for this whole endeavor of purchasing a new system and a new copy of MSFS.
PS. I just got an email that my purchase of the MS Store got refunded. So now I just have the find a way to get the boxed version to run.
I don’t see any icons any where that I could use to start the application.
On my old system I do see MSFS in the MS Store but not on the new system.
I ran into an issue after my FS2020 install (MS-Store) simply vaporized. It happened right after I used a 3rd part mod uninstaller. Gone. Just gone.
So I went back to the Store, verified that I owned the sim, and tried to reinstall it. I had to do a lot of googling to figure out I needed to do a circus high-wire act involving the Xbox app.
Not nearly the flaming hoops you’ve had to jump through, but still…
I hope you enjoy flying with your Pimax.
I did find a way to redeem the code. In the MS Store click on my initials on the top right. A menu opens and I selected " redeem code or gift cards." It’s downloading now. So fingers crossed.
Question: Was MSF running on your old system during the install process on the new rig?
What also comes to mind: Why did MS offer installation DVD’s?
It might feel quicker while installing the initial program but you’re bound to download all updates directly afterwards before you’re flying for the first time and that will take ages.
For me in person, I decided to install MSFS on my new system under my existing account and not even try to run it on my old laptop ever again.
No the old system was off during the installation of the new system and of the MS Store MFS version.
It was because the MS Store version did not start at all, hat I choose to buy a new boxed version to give that a try.
It seamed like a natural thing for me to install the boxed version with the DVDs. Now that I had to redeem the boxed version in the MS Store. It’s downloading from there. It does not even offer a DVD installation. But I fear that will just bring me back to the same issue that I had with the Xbox App purchase. That it won’t startup. But let’s see.
By the way I want to keep using my old system in parallel. That’s why I purchased a second copy.
I think you should create a new Microsoft ID for the second unit. Your settings are stored on the cloud by ID. I had issues when I had store version and a steam version installed on one machine (not running at the same time). If you want your settings unique, I believe you need separate IDs.
