3 Questions perhaps someone can help me out with :)

Why do I see player names but no planes?(I like to get in the F-15 and find people/planes and sometimes there’s usernames in the sky but no plane. Not sure why it happens with some and not others)

Can I have photogrammetry on and still have trees on ground level look realistic?(With it off the trees on the ground look realistic, but the buildings are all generic. With it on the trees are pixilated but the buildings are detailed)

I assume the higher I change my (graphic)settings the more I’ll get in game stutter?

  1. I don’t understand the question. Aren’t they just far away? Otherwise, I don’t know why you wouldn’t see some sort of model

  2. No, the photogrammetry trees are part of the photogrammetry models for that area. There is no way to make them look better. And I agree, they are sooooo ugly. I wish Asobo filtered them out.

  3. Yes, the higher you set your graphic settings the more stuttering you will see (if any). Play around till you find a combination you like. Nobody can help you with that, as ever single machine and setup is different.

I’ve seen at least one instance of a player name tag frozen in place, like they had hit active pause, or perhaps left slew mode on. They were above the valley near Meribel. As I approached there was no plane model, just the name tag. I went right by them.

I agree that active pause seems likely, but I’m not sure either. Sometimes there are tags hanging for days around busy airports like KDFW or KLAX.

1 - Just guessing here, but is it possible they’re flying planes that aren’t in your hangar?

3 - Get pencil, paper, and coffee, then sit down with the following video. Decide what you want to see in high quality and what can be left low without much visual impact. In my experience, it’s the things with the least visual impact that have the highest penalty in framerates.

Thank you ! This is the most interesting video I have seen sofar on this forum. My takeaway: on my laptop screen (1920x1080) I can keep settings on Medium, except for water. Anisotropic 2x2, anti-aliasing TAA.
For screen shots, Clouds High will add some color depth, Ultra makes little difference.

Observations:

  • High and ultra settings for Buildings have no effect
  • High and ultra settings for Trees and Grass just add some more
  • The only effective anti-aliasing is TAA, and it is only needed when moving
  • On high altitude increasing LOD above 125 is useless
  • On lower altitudes (<1000 Ft) increasing LOD above 75 does near nothing
  • Objects level of detail above 100 don’t make relevant difference
  • Cloud fans use High, which is really better than low and medium, Ultra adds little..
  • Water at Low should be avoided at any time ! especially with wind set
  • Water at High is NOT needed at altitudes over 2000Ft
  • Water at High is needed for screenshots at low altitude
  • Ambient occlusion can be kept at Medium
  • Anisotropic texture supersampling in MSFS useless above 2x2

Afaik you see names of „all players“ or „live players“ but only the aircraft type if you have it installed yourself. I think you even have to have the same livery on your computer. So it‘s basically a conpletely useless feature

TALLYSHARK!!! Dude!!! You were one of the first friends I added in this game! I see you logged on ALL the time man! For real no one logs more hours in this game than you do! I’ve found you so many times with my F-15 and usually you’re in a slower plane, mostly over Texas area but I’ve seen you fly outside of Tx the past few weeks. Really cool to see you on here!

I had recorded a video one time of me escorting you to Bergstrom and recorded the landing but I didn’t upload it and ended up deleting it. I’ll see you in the skies again friend!

Yes, possibly, but Graphics settings are not the only thing you can tune that may have an impact on stutter.

A lot of assets need to load at airports for example, so as you descend, approach or otherwise come into range the scenery assets will load but so will the airport vehicles, static aircraft models, AI traffic models that might be on the ground or near an airport etc…

In some areas there may be several busy airports all within loading distance (an international airport and a busy regional/municipal airport plus some local airfields for example) so as you get closer there is a sudden increase in drive and network activity as these assets load.

You can reduce all of these. I usually fly with Live Traffic only. (real world) No user traffic, no AI traffic. I also reduced the amount of ground assets etc which load by about half. (There are sliders for this)

I can’t be 100% sure but my feeling is that having rolling cache disabled also has an impact on stutter. In my case I have a solid network connection and don’t need all the extra disk reads/writes in addition to the network activity - all of which has processor cycle cost. So, I turned it off.

I don’t think this is the case and the reason being, is I often times like to take my F-15 and fly next to random people and check out their planes and I have seen planes in the sky with liveries I don’t have.

Thank you for your post. I feel like this part is what was affecting me the most.

My takeaway is that water, grass/bush make the biggest difference graphically.

How did this guy manage to fly with photogrammetry on(assuming it’s on based on how detailed the city is) but still get the ground level trees to look so clean?

Nevermind. I had never tried it before and did just now and mine looked just as good. Really detailed.

Hi, Tunic! I am using an economy mod (OnAir) and have some FBO’s around Dallas, so that’s why I was crossing the DFW metro area all the time. Now on some longer flights. I need to track you down one of these nights and provide fighter coverage to you, lol. Good to see you, friend!

Why does my flight hours stay at 379? I have youtube videos of me flying that tally more total time than 379 hours. What gives?

You probably turned on dev. mode, then left it on. It won’t log flight hours if it is is active. Even activating it in a session, then deactivating it won’t log.

I hardly mess with any of the settings. Reading your post I went to general options and clicked on developers and developer mode was off, and I am 99% sure I’ve never turned it on.
