30 years of using flight simulator but disappointed by 2020 version

Well it’s impressive if they didn’t have any experience…

Yes there is issue but they will be ironed out

I have taken on many contracts over the years that required 100% of my time for multiple years. Not uncommon to have to put your life on hold to complete a massive project. That is how success happens.

If I have a contract to fly daily hops in the New Guinea jungle, my employer is not going to be very happy if I decide to take breaks so I can go pursue other interests along the way.

If the contract is for ten years, I expect to be paid for ten years of work. Why would I need to pursue other projects?

So…to be clear, you’re upset because of the game-ranked landing challanges, camera views, and the VFR map? If I was using MSFS to teach students, I’d just use a VFR sectional. Teaching a PPL pilotage in MSFS is 2nd to none.

You might want to think about teaching your students in VR. That’s as close to the real thing as you can get.
Or Track IR at the very least.

Yes but how long did it take FSX to get to that level…takes time

The complainers should stick to that bland FSX

Exactly…those key combos were default once i plugged my logitech controls in…some people need to stick to FSX because the new age is too complicated for them

Unfortunately, I didn’t find any indication on the packaging when I bought it that the development would take another 10 years. I was told it’s an end product.
But it is, admittedly, better than feared. In this respect … VR and systems still need a little more maintenance.

Can you provide a screen shot of that claim?

As I remember it, most, if not all the articles I read prior to purchase indicated that MS had committed to 10 years. To be honest, I don’t remember them saying they would be done developing it in 10 years. I think they said, “support”. However I also don’t remember them saying the product was complete, either.

DVD Version, no word about WiP

I agree with you. I was just explaining why in my opinion so many things in this game are half baked.

Opening canopies on things like the Pitt, Extra and Super Hornet would really add immersion to VR because before a flight it really adds to the suspension of disbelief to standup in VR in the open cockpit, have a look around at the aircraft your standing in, then sitting down, and going flying  Makes you feel like you’ve really stepped into it, but I’m a bit weird like that!!! The only other things in terms of design that annoys me is that the world map menu screen is unnecessarily demanding on my computer… I don’t need a full Gods eye view menu experience in my flight planning.

If I remember rightly FSX and Acceleration (together) cost quite a bit more than MSFS2020 fifteen years later. Even unfinished it is still remarkable value. (except for me, I found them in a thrift shop for literally peanuts, Acceleration hadn’t even been out six months)

Say again over

30 year flight simmer here, now major airline pilot. Fly 767s IRL, 15,000 total flight time and IMHO the OP is flat out wrong.

MSFS is not a trainer. It’s a training aid. It’s ridiculous how useful it has been in the past and is now. The OP is not a full time pilot and doesn’t live and breath aviation like I have. MSFS 2020 bar none is the best thing to ever happen to those who are learning to fly.

MSFS THE best flight simulator ever invented to date!! Learning the FMC and Garmins!! How to navigate IS TRANING!! That is why I love this sim so much.

And this right here is the MOST 100% true statement said.

The sim IS only 1 year old. If you were to match all flight sims together at their default state, MSFS is light years ahead.

But people forget that every single sim that has been developed has had to take time to get to it prime.

Rest assure, in 2-5 years from now, MSFS will be the only thing people use.

Agreed, its like a playground mentality, “my dads better than your dad” sort of nonsense.

Naa, I don’t think so.
Can’t say much about P3D. They area the oldest in visual technology (still relying on the FSX code) but the most realistic in systems and aircraft. So I’m not sure what they will be able to come up with in the future to close the gap in visuals.
But the new releases by Laminar show that they won’t take the resurgence of MSFS lying down. They still are ahead when it comes to working aircraft, flight systems etc. And the animation of the trees and some other stuff I’ve seen in the latest trailers for XPlane 12 already surpasses MSFS, also their autogen wasn’t bad either and they will probably also be able to find a company that does something similar to Blackshark. So if they can get the “World Sim” part of the equation working, I have no doubt they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Is there? I didn’t notice that actually.
