Head over to Guru3d.com. Founders RTX 3090 review using MSfS2020 at ultra settings.
In 1920x1080 only one frame faster than my 2080ti.
In 3840x2160 4k only 10 frames more over my 2080ti.
Gives pause for thought huh?
I’m hardly surprised since MSFS is so extremely CPU bound. The difference from the 3080 is also not surprising given it’s only up to 20% faster in theory (in rasterization), except when VRAM limited.
Linus Tech Tips had no difference between the 3080 and 3090 at 1440, a frame or two at 4k.
Gamers Nexus showed very little difference across most games between the two.
IMO, its a card for those who must have the top tier no matter what. It’s twice the price for very little performance difference.
It also shows to me that the VRAM on the 3080 is enough.
I’m getting a 3090 as part of a new PC build, probably won’t have it for a month or so though. Going from a 2070Super, so I’ll see what I get. I am doing 4K only with MSFS now, and am completely GPU constrained, so hopefully I’ll see some uptick. I know that it isn’t cost effective, but I was close to getting a 2080Ti not too long ago for not much less cost, so I’m reminding myself of that to avoid feeling too price pained.
current system: i9-9900K, 64gb ram, 2070S, 4K monitors (2), small pc case that makes a lot of fan noise and runs hot (dell 8930 with some minor fan mods).
Still getting one. I need the render power for C4D+Redshift. Dream come true for CG artists. The bonus frames are just icing on the cake.
Anyone doing VR benchmarks?
An amazing 63 degrees at 99% load. I have a 2080Ti FTW3 Hybrid working with this temperature
These cards are built for GPU intensive AAA gaming.
Not CPU intensive flight sims still on DX11.
I doubt your going to see much difference between any of the 3X00 cards in MSFS any time soon.
3090 doesn’t worth it at all for the $
Exactly, I’ve been saying it all along. Wait for the next sku of 3080 cards, otherwise 3090 owners could be embarrassed paying twice for a card which is slower than a 3080 Ti / 3080 Super. It will come out I guarantee it, Nvidia are just waiting on AMD…
It’s near certain we’ll get 20 GB 3080 models, but I wouldn’t expect them to outperform the 3090. Wouldn’t that be the first time in GPU marketing history where a model outperforms one in a higher product range (i.e. xx80 Ti vs xx90)?
They did market the 3090 as the “BFGPU” and even as a 8K gaming card. I really wouldn’t expect anything more performant from nvidia until the 4000-series. That said, if one wants the 3090 for the VRAM I’d also recommend waiting.
I had initially planned to get myself a 3090 as part of a new build I’m in the middle of.
Seeing as my case has been delayed constantly (I ordered it on the 1st of Sept, Still waiting), along with the teething issues with microchips on the 30’ series boards as well as MSFS still needing a lot more optimisation, I’ve decided to wait a little bit longer before I buy the GPU.
The main reason I was looking at the 3090 was that 10GB VRAM seemed vastly insufficient to me for a DX12 FlightSim (I’ve made comments about the P3D V4/V5 changeover from DX11 to 12) however a 20GB 3080 seems like it might be the sweet spot of performance/price if the rumours come to fruition. (Most rumours regarding the 30 series have been pretty spot on so far too)
and in a few weeks we’ll know what options AMD’s new Radeon lineup will have as well. Plenty of rumors it’s going to release with more VRAM. Really can’t hurt to wait for a few more weeks.
I’ve been with Nvidia exclusively since the GTS250 (and 750Ti, 980Ti, 1080 - Currently in use)
I’ve got no real reason to stay with Nvidia other than just some weird sense of unguided brand loyalty. I’ve never really followed the ATI releases since my X800 before the GTS250.
I do think that competition is healthy though, so hopefully whatever AMD do release puts a boot up Nvidia’s backside and causes a more stable price on the later release 30 series - although I suspect both companies will have high prices on the performance range.
3080 20GB definitely seems worth waiting for!
hey, at least then you’ll make a decision knowing all information. I prefer making decisions based on knowing as many of the options as possible.
I have heard there is a 20gb 3080 coming.Lets hope that’s true. Might better to wait for those. Currently on a 2060super and in no rush to upgrade.
