[READ FIRST] How to Post as an Addon Creator

Only forums staff and Verified Forum 3rd Party Developers may post in this category.

If accepted, your forum account will have a new title, “Verified Forum 3rd Party Developer”, and a forums tag will be created for your organization (if one does not already exist) that must be used when posting about your addon.

:yellow_circle: 1. You must meet the following criteria:

In order to apply,

  1. Your forums account must be at Trust Level 1 or higher. Please read more about trust levels here.

  2. You must be in good standing within the community. Prior incidents involving your addon(s), your organization, or your forums account may be taken into consideration during the application process.

  3. You must have some recent forum activity that includes not just posting about your addon(s).

  4. You must have at least one developed addon available for the public to download or purchase already. An addon in a public beta stage is acceptable.

  5. Your addon(s) must fall into one of the following categories, below. If you feel your addon does not fall within these categories, please include the reasoning why within your application.

    Category Examples
    Activities Bush trips, discovery flights, landing challenges, missions, training, etc.
    Airports
    Aircraft Airplanes, balloons, gliders, helicopters, liveries, etc. (Other vehicles such as cars and boats are acceptable, as well.)
    Scenery Packs Night lighting enhancements, photogrammetry, points of interest (POIs), terrain mesh, texture packs, etc.
    Utilities ATC enhancements, flight planners, liveries, replay tools, traffic enhancements, etc.

Please note:

  1. One other user from your organization may have access to this role, for a total of two users.

  2. If you sell payware, you must have one or more official support sources where users can receive assistance for your payware addon(s). Examples include: Discord, email, forums, social media, website, Zendesk or some other ticketing system.

  3. The Community team reserves the right to revoke your Verified Forum 3rd Party Developer status at any time. To maintain your status, you must adhere to the rules on this page and the Code of Conduct. If you receive more than two official warnings, your status as a Verified Forum 3rd Party Developer may be revoked. Revocation of your status in the forums does not affect your status in the Marketplace.

  4. By submitting an application, you agree that your acceptance is not an endorsement from Microsoft, Asobo, or their affiliates, and you are not allowed to claim otherwise without explicit permission.

:writing_hand: How to Post in This Category

These rules must be followed when posting in this category.

Repeatedly not following these rules may result in the removal of your Verified Forum 3rd Party Dev status. Please message @moderators before posting if you have any questions about the rules.

:yellow_circle: 1. When to Post

  • New addons: For newly-developed addons, you may only post an announcement in this category when your addon is available for the public to download or purchase. An addon in a public beta stage is acceptable.
  • Addon updates: You may post a reply to an existing announcement topic if you have any news about your addon, or when your addon has been updated.

:yellow_circle: 2. How to Post

:fire: New addons:

  1. Post only one topic per addon, and only one addon per topic.

  2. Your topic title must follow this format: [UPDATE xx] Mod Name | Organization name

    Example: [UPDATE 1.2] John F Kennedy International Airport (KJFK) | My Organization

    [UPDATE xx] may look like any of these three formats:

    • [RELEASE]
    • [UPDATE]
    • [UPDATE 1.5]
  3. Do not directly link to any download files. Instead, link to a page where people can download the addon.

  4. If the addon is payware, you must include one or more links to official support sources where users can receive assistance on your addon. Examples include: Discord, email, forums, social media, website, Zendesk or some other ticketing system.

  5. Required tags. When posting a new topic in the announcements category you must use three tags, one tag from each of the following categories:

    Category Options Notes
    Cost payware You may use both payware and freeware if you have payware and freeware versions
    freeware You may use both payware and freeware if you have payware and freeware versions
    Category aircraft Airplanes, balloons, gliders, helicopters, liveries, etc. (Other vehicles such as cars and boats are acceptable, as well.)
    activity Bush trips, discovery flights, landing challenges, missions, training, etc.
    airport Do not use the scenery or scenery-pack tags when announcing an airport.
    scenery-pack Landmarks, night lighting enhancements, photogrammetry, terrain mesh, texture packs, etc.
    Note: Airports are not scenery.
    tool ATC enhancements, flight planners, replay tools, traffic enhancements, etc.
    Your Organization We will create a tag for you if your application is approved.
  6. Optional tags: You may add other tags to further increase the searchability of your post.

    Examples:

    Aircraft balloon, glider, hang-glider, helicopter, seaplane, ultralight
    Airport #helipad, ground-services
    Scenery Pack night-lighting, photogrammetry, poi, terrain (for mesh products), textures

      Note: If using a country tag, please use a region tag, as well:
    Regions africa, antarctica, asia, caribbean, central-america, europe, middle-east, north-america, oceania, south-america
    Countries albania, algeria, angola, anguilla, antigua-barbuda, argentina, etc.
  7. Optional: We encourage you to create a discussion topic in one of the categories: Aircraft, Activities, Gliders, Helicopters, Scenery & Airports, Utilities, depending on the addon. Please use the same tags for this, and please feel free to link your announcement to the discussion topic.

:arrow_up: Addon updates:

  1. If you wish to update users on an addon, you may post a new reply to your existing announcement topic. Do not create a new topic.

  2. Include relevant details on what changes you have made and include a link to release notes, if applicable.

:small_airplane: Rules for all posts:

  • Do not reply to other organizations’ announcement topics. You are only allowed to create topics and post replies for your own organization’s addons.
  • Your topics may include pictures and links to trailer videos.
  • All posts must comply with the Code of Conduct.
  • The Community team and forums staff reserve the right to edit and/or remove your addon post(s). You will be notified of any edits to your post(s).

:speech_balloon: Discord announcements:

Every new announcement topic and every update post gets re-posted in the official MSFS Discord server.

The announcement includes your forum name, avatar and a link to your profile, as well as your topic title and a description generated using the first two paragraphs in your post. You can use text formatting in your forum post, but it will be stripped in the Discord announcement.

These addons are not vetted by MS/Asobo, may break your sim or cause other issues. Only download and install addons, from creators and websites that you trust
