Just wondering. I could get the 5800x now (replacing the 3900x with a 2080Ti on 1440p) but would it be worth the ~300 £ ?
Would I notice a significant increase on FPS?
I fly mainly the FBW and eventually complex airliners (when they come) in Europe (Very High, Ultra vol clouds) with AIG traffic and mostly I am constrained by the CPU.
I had a frustrating experience today in EGKK with FPS down to 25.
This is making me question seriously if I should upgrade the CPU or just better wait ahead to see what this 5800x3d or whatever it is called brings about or October the Zen4
Unless you can find a 5800X for a good discount, I think you’d probably be better off sticking with what you have. If you still want to upgrade, the 5800X3D might be a good option in the near future, but you should wait for benchmarks in MSFS to be available so you can determine if it is worth it.
Zen4 processors aren’t going to work in AM4 sockets so if you want a Zen4 further down the line you will also need to upgrade mobo and ram, which would be a hefty bill.
To answer your question definitively though, I don’t think that going from a 3900X to a 5800X would make 300 pounds worth of difference in your framerate.

Ok. If the advice is to hold, what would you wait for if you were me?
Not worth the 300 £ means the 5800x would give me at best what, 5 fps if ever?
Yeah, I wouldn’t expect much more difference than that.
If you are after a bigger fps boost you may be better off getting a faster gpu.You are already on 1440p.
You won’t get a huge fps going to the 5800x but the extra single threaded performance will net you better performance.
Upgrading my cpu has made my experience a whole lot smoother.

even if i show a main thread limited?
but true, I have planned to upgrade to the 3080 Ti at some point

2080ti is still pretty solid gpu. Ultra volumetric clouds is going to tank your performance with large airports.
Trying lowering your clouds to high.I run 1440p ultrawide and find they still look decent on high.
Reduce the AIG traffic controller slider if you have it set to 100.Hopefully you don’t have all your sim traffic sliders set to 100.
Also what is your LOD sliders set to?

AMD relies on fast memory. Only worth it with a really fast RAM. 3600MHz should be there. Or 3400.
I chose the 5900x with DDR4 3600MHz, I am almost maxed out at 2160p at 40 FPS stable. I have a GTX1080TI due to the lack of affordable cards atm so I‘m significantly bottlenecked here.

I made the switch in February, when MSFS performance was not optimized. Back then I got +10 FPS. You can sell the 3900X. This way the upgrade cost me 150.- That was ok. The 5800X with 2080ti handles 1440p and everything at ultra in 2D easily. Even the GPU is not fully used. In VR CPU usage is at about 60% - two cores are used at about 80 to 90%, the rest just a little.

@RAM: Mine runs at 3.200 Mhz with XMP profile. The system performs very well with that.
