3rd Party add-on files not working

Hi everyone,

Returning Microsoft Flight Sim player, new to this forum.

I’m having a problem with any add-on files downloaded from https://flightsim.to/. I download the file, extract it using WinRAR/7Zip and move the file into the community folder, but nothing changes in the game at all.

I have had developer mode on when I have done this and used the Virtual File System > Packages Folders > Open Community Folder pathway to ensure I was using the correct folder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially as my home airport in the standard game does not look that great and no where near what it does in real life.

Edit: Just for clarity I am playing MSFS Standard Edition downloaded through Game Pass. TIA

Doubled check the folder structure you have created in the Community folder.

It should be like:

Community
|
\Addon-folder
|
\manifest.json

There should only be a single folder above “manifest.json”, then the Community folder immediately above that.

If you are using a zip manager fo extract it, ensure it isn’t also creating a folder which matches the ZIP file name. If it has, simply move the addon folder one level up, then delete the empty folder created by the ZIP extract.

Hi Hobanagerik,

Oh okay, so in some of them it goes like this

Community > Add-on Folder > Another folder > Manifest.json (and also some other files). So I just need to take the Manifest.json files and the others and put them directly after the Add-on folder, is that correct?

Many Thanks for your help mate

Yes, move the entire “Another folder” up to the same level as “Add-on” folder, then delete the now empty “Add-on” folder.

“Another folder” should be the actual name of the addon you are installing.

What’s happening is the ZIP file has that folder inside it, so what you really want to do when extracting is to use the “Extract here” option, to extract that folder into “Community”. The other options will create a folder with the name of the ZIP, with the addon folder inside that, which means the sim can’t see it.
