4 years in and pretty much zero improvements to clouds

literally :joy:

I had opened a wishlist for this… but they closed it because it hasn’t come out yet… if I don’t see it being sold out in 2024 I will reopen a wishlist again and I hope guys that there will be many of us…

How did you test it? Because I’m sure I’ve seen them dissipating not long ago. I’m sure even wind speed plays a role here.

You used to be able to see individual clouds shrinking and disappearing in real time, but I also tried speeding up the sim rate. The clouds move with the wind, but they don’t appear to shrink and disappear anymore. At least in the tests I tried.

hello, i ran into some pretty decent clouds today
my beef is only with the ash storm clouds, the rest is fine for me

guys they removed the dissipation because there were problems with the real-time translation…unfortunately we lost a bit of cloud immersion…for this I hope that in 2024 they will put some things back… if we have a better sim performance I don’t see why they shouldn’t put it back…seeing those clouds fixed like paintings bothers me…

Where’s the official confirmation for this? Because, again, I’m pretty sure I noticed dissipation not a long while ago, while I was testing FSLTL. I’m not doubting you, but I still think anecdotal evidence isn’t enough (it goes both ways).

It’s just like lightning, although isn’t as common it once was, they still show up (and that’s not bad, it was too pronounced before).

Those are what I like to call the “showcase” clouds. That golden hour light on a layer of shallow convection looks great in the sim.

I was up flying IRL in the Long-EZ the other day with some gorgeous puffballs up there, went back and recreated the flight in the simulator and it looked amazingly close to reality:

A little more detail in the turbulence of the cloud structure and they’ve got it nailed. But yeah, it’s the big storm clouds and towering convection that need a lot more work. They’ve tuned the clouds for this ideal case, and it starts to fall apart the more you stray from this cloud type and structure.

makes sense

If you want to see more varied clouds more often, you either have to make them yourself through presets, or use something like Rex of ActiveSky. And those other forms don’t look quite as impressive as cumulus clouds, but it breaks the monotony. I truly hope they have made some big changes on this front in 2024.

Wait, is this really a comparison between reality on top and MSFS at the bottom ?
If so, then it’s indeed amazing ! :sunglasses:
Of course we all wish it’d be so close to reality in all conditions, but still…

It is indeed. It’s pretty much the ideal case to try to duplicate, but I’m hoping with the new lighting model in FS24 there will be more moments like this with different variations of weather.

Have a look at this link and see if the clouds and weather are what Asobo said it would be.
At the moment the sim is rather boring, same old clouds wherever you fly.
