The issue here is that Carenado, like a number of other aircraft and scenery developers, have been spoon feeding sim flyers garbage for years, and the saddest thing is, they’ve kept coming back for more and more. So they make more, sell more, rinse and repeat.
And now, they’re doing the exact same thing with this sim. I just laughed when I saw that CT182 on sale. It’s a shame there isn’t a permanent filter on the marketplace so you can filter out the junk from the devs that will happily take your money and sell you a bag of nails. You won’t get your money back.
Look, people are coming from different sims so may not know what some of these devs really are like. Do your homework. Look for reviews of releases and also their previous efforts. Things are released and within hours Youtubers are fighting each other to get reviews out. Hold off with your money, ask questions and make informed choices. Don’t just buy stuff on a whim ‘cuz it looks gud’ . 315 reviews of that Carenado Skylane on the marketplace lol. I’ll bet there’s no buyers remorse there! There will be more and more of this default quality with a shiny skin stuff coming like a tidal wave.
If you really want to chuck extra money at this sim, consider using it to support Devs like Flightbeam (and maybe Gaya?) , not the likes of Carenado and Orbx who from the start have set their stall out. They’ve shown that they will quite happily sell you sub standard **** ported from their old addons for a quick buck. Drzeweicki Design are sniffing around as well as they’ve just released their first one. They’ve got plenty of form for turning out a mess, denying there’s an issue, doing nothing about it and then selling more and more.
What would you rather do, spend $140 (speculation on the price there) on an all in, full systems study level 747 with all the high quality bells and whistles from the likes of PMDG, or buy a random job lot of default level tat and then feel like you’ve had your pants pulled down? I know where my money’s going.
No, I’m with you. I might even consider myself to be the part of informed purchasers of content. Yet it was there… The only one… Something just overtook me, I bought it, got inside and then smacked myself in the head and called myself a blithering idiot for what I did. It’s not like I didn’t know better.
I have a fundamental issue of marketplaces dictating what is allowed or not in general - whether it’s pro or anti-consumer is a topic for another discussion.
I’m just wondering why marketplace is so barebones. Why the delay for other stuff already out there from showing up in the marketplace?
This is a joke right? A few of the GA are pretty good. I am enjoying the TBM 930 and seems like most of its systems are working correctly. Haven’t tried too many of the other GA but the ones I have tried are Horrendous for IFR flying. I could not get the King Air to engage any kind of autopilot let alone figure out how to get it flying according to the FMS. No need to mention the two airliners. They should be embarrassed releasing them in their current state.
Nevertheless when all the bugs get worked out and some aircraft get introduced from the likes of PMDG then MSFS 2020 will truly be unmatched. There will be no comparison.
Oh yea and they need to fix the live weather. That’s a bad joke considering all the hype they put into the feature.
I am in absolutely no position to endorse or criticise the flight model and I won’t even try. It flies - what else you expect from non real world pilot haha.
That fact that I had to do searches to find where the manuals are irked me a little.
The fact that that it’s an outer shell only annoyed me a bit as well.
But what I was super puzzled about is the extreme difficulty in starting the engine. I swear I’m doing it right and even if I flooded the engine - the published procedure doesn’t work, so it’s ctrl+e for me
I was able to start it at some times, not the others. In all cases there is fuel flow indicated. But I’ll give your suggestion a try next time I load it up. It would be a shame to let it sit and not be used for some vfr circuits after I paid for it
Just a quick edit
I can’t remember what A2A goes for nowadays, but if it’s roughly the same it is a way more superior purchase than carenado. I love what accusim tries to achieve and it’s a huge ‘realism’ boost. I’m talking about taking care of your aircraft. If you drain the battery it will be dead when you reload etc.
Early in 2003 I was one of the three A320 Pilot in Command developers, by Wilco Publishing. It was a FS2004 add-on (long time ago ) It was the first ever fully “clickable” virtual cockpit. About 75 % of the Airbus systems were active. We spent around 1800 hours for developing this add-on. Our salary was 6000 euros per person (less the taxman fee). As far as I remember the add-on was sold at 45 euros. Now you may compute who was the winner … Just my 2 cents
You get what you pay for… the stock aircraft in MSFS 2020 leave a lot to be desired. Historically, Carenado addons have proven to not be much better than the stock planes… I equate it to being like a skin. Save your money and wait for something from A2A or PMDG, then the reasons why people spend money on addons will become clear
@MaxiARG4147 PMDG makes some of the best third party add-on aircraft on the market… and you think that they should be given away for a fraction of what they are selling it for? After the amount of work they put into replicating all of the real-world systems and flying characteristics??? That’s some sense of entitlement you have there…
I wouldn’t jump to entitlement - I also feel pmdg is not necessarily overpriced but pricey in general - market pays what it’s worth.
And PMDG is worth it. I have not regretted any cent I spent on it or fs2crew which complemented it - that’s the software setup I’m waiting for in msfs. Eagerly.
But with that in mind, I hope pmdg ltd finds themselves in a place where purchase cost can be less because the market is bigger.
I will never understand people defending companies. I prefer to defend the consumer, nobody asked me to defend anyone, it is just I can’t be on the side of the people making money out of us. PMDG of course works hard on their product, just like every company out there. In my opinion, 100/120/200 bucks is an abuse. I do not feel entitled to anything, you just have an opposite opinion and you believe I am the wrong here, but that is not the case. I am not wrong about anything, neither you. ours are just opinions. Take it or leave it. There are a lot of things that should be considered for putting a price on something, saying “they have the right to price whatever they want” is correct too.
TropicoE obviously does not have any numbers and therefore cannot share the source.
BTW, when someone says something I always ask myself what his/her motive would be so saying that. Particularly when someone makes a statement as if it was a fact. In view of the already thousands of MSFS users (sometimes 17,000 alone on Stream, add the DVD sales and MSstore sales) and the fact that MS has sold 45 million X boxes, I cannot see how he could claim the market to be hundreds. Hundred would perhaps be the case for air planes aimed only at the x-plane or P3D markets. Note that it is in the developers interest to let potential buyers think they only have a small market. Strange that none of those here agreeing to high prices wants to consider the much huger market offered by MSFS.
Do I have real numbers of what? People who are buying pmdg 737 and their cost of making it?
No, I do not, but nor do you, so we are arguing about what we think is reasonable.
But if you read above, you will find out I’m am not your mortal enemy.
If you don’t like my politely expressed opinion - that is fair - we are entitled to have differing ones. If you are disagreeing with me just because I don’t agree with your view - oh well, hope that makes you happy.
