Looks very handy!
I am not sure that this is the appropriate link to post this info. in, but it seems to have the largest numbers of the ones I currently follow, so here goes:
I just received a tip from Raul of the FSReborn Discord that I think might be of value to those of us who download and install many MSFS add-ons. It essentially identifies conflicts or potential ones and recommends corrective actions and it’s called “Simstaller” by Parallel42.
I have very few add-ons so I can’t personally vouch for its accuracy.
However, if you are interested here is a link to a video that describes it more in depth: Simstaller by Parallel 42 - TUTORIAL (youtube.com)

Well I hope it is just me, but this appears like a bait and switch deal.
I have been trying unsuccessfully to download this program.
I can add it to the cart and then it pops up a window with 3 other apps that are discounted. It also pops up a $2 “donation” option.
The download link in the cart appears to be grayed out at this point and is totally unresponsive.
It doesn’t appear to be “free” to me.
Conclusion: It’s not free-ware but rather donation-ware.
So… good luck!
It is free, but you do need to setup an account with them before you can download it.
False. It is Freeware.
Do you need help finding the Terms and Conditions checkbox that enables the Checkout button?
Edit: There. We’ve made it a giant green box so you don’t miss it
I see the Bookmarks message on installation: “Use Addons Linker? Add custom directories as bookmarks to quickly swap package destinations.”
I don’t know what this means. I use Addons Linker. Should I use my custom addons directory or the MSFS Community directory as the Package Destination?
Maybe with Simstaller I no longer need Addons Linker?
Your questions mirror mine at this juncture.
You use the one you want to install into.
- If it’s the Community folder, you point it to the Community folder.
- If it’s Add-ons Linker, you point it to you Add-ons Linker directory.
You can Bookmark multiple paths if you have multiple Add-ons linker directories.
Thanks.
I guess my question is “Which folder do I WANT to install it into?” Which would be best for me? If Simstaller adds “bookmarks” why do I need Addons Linker at all? Doesn’t it become redundant? I’m more than willing to uninstall Add-ons Linker if Simstaller does a similar thing.
I guess I don’t understand what you mean by “bookmarks” and how they are used with Addons Linker.
If you were me, an Addons Linker user with one addons folder, where would you install it and why?
Does anybody know how to uninstall Simstaller?
edit: Delete the downloaded file and then reassign the filetype to winrar or similar.
If you are using Addons Linker, set the Package Destinations folder in Siminstaller to your addons folder. Creating a bookmark is not necessary if you know you want everything in your addons folder. Creating a bookmark is convenient for people who may want to switch the folder Siminstaller installs into, depending on how they may have things organized.
Siminstaller does not provide any of the functionality of Addons Linker. It does two things: 1) Watches the folder you tell it to watch for new downloads of a compressed file type, and if it detects one, it will uncompress it into the folder you set as the Destination folder, and 2) tries to detect potential conflicts among the addons.
Thank you for that clarification.
Sorry if I seemed to you to be slightly daft there, but this is how that page appears to me with my browser in “dark mode”. As you might notice, there is no “checkbox”, per se. It’s probably all my bad - something about my browser set-up, but hopefully it’s not affecting others.
Thanks for this explanation. I’ll give it a go.
Thanks for the love!
Our website isn’t offered in Dark mode. We can’t be responsible for your browser altering the colors of our site.
In any case, we’ve added an outline to the checkbox to ensure maximum contrast in your specific case.
Cataracts and macular degeneration are among my many physical limitations…
Glad it’s been resolved and thanks for the feedback!
All in all, quite a useful program. I didn’t know how much hassle 7zip was until I tried it.
