Honestly, I’m not convinced Asobo have the devs to be able to enhance the weather model to the degree of Laminar Designs, their weather model only improved dramatically after hiring that dev that specialised in that area.
I still get that weather sometimes with MSFS2024, but it’s only really ever one cloud type which is my main gripe with the weather model, along with the atmospheric lighting.
In any case, there are plenty of weather-related bugs that need fixing—for instance, the way ice and snow form (it’s not precise), or those strange clouds that sometimes appear transparent, or the sudden, rapid transitions between cloud formations, and so on. They could gradually start working on this aspect as well…
that would require them to actually work on the weather/cloud system
better forget that ![]()
Honestly, I just want them to open up the weather API to third-party developers; I’ve given up hope that they’ll fix the weather issues I’m experiencing at specific airports, where live weather often fails—specifically regarding pressure and temperature readings that shift abruptly halfway down the runway, ruining RNAV approaches.
I was looking through some of my older MSFS 2020 screenshots from summer of 2021. Wow, we really have regressed since that time. I was amazed at some of the shots and it was evident that they were capable of creating convincing higher level clouds back then. Some nice grey stratiform clouds present in many of my shots and really nice cloud shadows, etc.. I know there were issues with the dark ash clouds at times but overall, the shots look much better than anything I can get now…
MSFS 2020 Live WX (summer of '21)
Shots 2 and 3 don’t really look any different from the current sim, the last two shots are definitely something we don’t see anymore, but even with 2020 pre SU5, there was still a shortage of cloud types.
Yeah, I threw those in just to show the cloud shadowing…which I don’t really notice anymore in the sim. Clouds just seem way more overexposed without depth now in most cases. Also, you don’t notice the transparent popcorn puff balls in those shots that we have now…
