5 years in and pretty much zero improvements to clouds

wait until you “fly” with thatz kind of setup, in hopes this will SOME DAY get even a little attention:

It was said once I think that the cloud system works in vertically stacked layers. They only have the possibility to set the height of those layers. So my interpretation of this is: these are cb’s squeezed in a very low layer.

Looks like DLSS5 does not do anything about the clouds. But the performance hit makes DLSS5 on the whole kinda not worth it.

No amount of DLSS is going to fix the atmospherics and weather engine. All it does is add some contrast that you can easily get in reshade. Sure it makes the faces look a little better, but who is staring at faces while flying planes…Hopefully Asobo can actually use DLSS 5 but I remember when MS couldn’t figure out DX12 for FSX so not holding my breath.

FSX was initially released in 2006 and dropped in 2009 when Microsoft closed Aces Game Studio. DX12, on the other hand, was only released 2015 so it didn’t even exist while FSX was alive.

@SageLobster5901 was close. FSX had a “Preview” mode for DirectX 10 under its Graphics options that never worked correctly on the grahpics cards I had access to at the time.

It is MSFS 2020 that, even in its current and most recent iteration of SU16, still has the DirectX 12 option listed as being a “Beta” graphics feature.

My bad. It was DX10 as noted above.

Back then it was actually marketing bla bla and selling point that dx10 would come as a patch later… I guess same story

they gave us that concept…
they missed their goal by quite a bit

Aces wanted to do a lot more with the DX10 update (including a dynamic water surface for example) but Microsoft had them on a strict deadline for SP2 because they were moved to development of Flight Simulator 11 immediately after. The work they managed to put into the FS11 engine before being laid-off was later used for Flight.

Just wondering if distant localized storm presets are a known MSFS 2024 feature.

Is this edited or a live weather shot? It looks like a rain shaft for sure, but that type of localized cloud formation is not something I have ever seen with live wx.

It’s not live weather of course, wish it was. Turns out there is a native way to create a preset with thunderstorms at lat,lon coordinates with a prescribed size and MSFS does the rest. What I’m trying to figure out is whether these can be somehow injected hot alongside live weather. Even Astra 6 concluded it is not, and overwriting the memory holding the weather has a low chance of success.

This is how cumulonimbus clouds with their anvil or lock should look; clearly, the pre-established time is much better. The question is, why don’t they somehow inject these clouds? We know that they function…This is how cumulonimbus clouds with their anvil or lock should look; clearly, the pre-established time is much better. We know that they It works with Meteoblue (Windy), and by the way, can you only use that type of cloud, and are they all along the route, for example, LEMD - LEPA, or are there different types of clouds? I’m asking because I’m wondering if there’s a way to do something similar live weather

they don t care .

Interesting find! Do they evolve, move, anvil spread or anything like that, or is it just plopped down with a general size?

Nope…Live WX is now incapable of doing much of anything other than injecting tiny transparent cumulus clouds everywhere along with unlimited visibility. The WX engine definitely has a lot of capability but it does not seem they have any interest in improving it for the Live WX function. We can only hope the next version of MSFS includes a huge improvement to weather and atmospherics. Wishful thinking I guess…

Woah I remember this screenshot from eons ago. I spent hours looking for it a few months ago! Thank you I honsetly thought I was loosing it or it, was lost media!

It’s amazing how the clouds look in the preset mode; this should really represent live weather! It’s amazing how the clouds look in the preset mode; this should really represent live weather!

Yeah, that what we hoped for '24 already..
During my flight today I looked through my gallery, and this was the live weather one stage..
