Switched from 5800x3d to 7800x3d three days ago. Can not believe it but performance is the same.
Motherboard went from x570s Aorus elite ax to x670 aorus elite ax. Ram went from 3600 to 6000 MHz (both 32GB) Gpu stayed the same 4070ti.
Don’t know how it’s possible it see no difference. In both setups settings are the same.
Ok, I’m on 4k main screen and have two additional monitors (not 4k) only few settings on ultra. TLOD 160 and object LOD 100. What am I doing wrong here? Any suggestions?
It is highly recommended to re-install Windows when switching between X3D CPU’s.
This was discussed on Nexus Gamer and a few other places, just updating drivers wasn’t enough.
If you Google “7800X3D Windows re-install” you’ll find a bunch of articles.
Hi, I did reinstall windows 11 and msfs.
Did you update the chipset drivers?
Understand that DDR4 and DDR5 are two different animals.
(Simplistic explanation to follow.)
My DDR4-3600/CAS14 has less bandwidth than DDR-6000/CAS40, but the better CAS level (Column Access Strobe) tends to even out the pure speed advantage.
DDR5 does have other benefits. Just don’t think that because your RAM is 6000MHZ that it’s 1.66 times ‘faster’ then 3600MHZ DDR4. It’s not.
Updated everything that needed an update.
Ok but this I did not expect at all… couple days before I build the exact same computer for a friend and my impression was much better of this system.
Is your friend also running a 4K main monitor, and two additional monitors?
Have you run standardized benchmark tests on both machines to compare performance? Are all the BIOS, Windows, and sim settings identical? Sometimes an ‘impression’ can be misleading.
As far as your expectations go, there’s really nothing in your new system that’s radically upgraded from your old system. As I said earlier, the RAM is not that much faster. The motherboard isn’t a big contributor. You have the same GPU. And the 5800X3D is not far behind the 7800X3D, as far as performance in this sim goes.
What is your sim performance on the new system? What are your FPS/latency numbers when you fly a simple aircraft in a simple environment?
My 5800X3D and 3090 Ti (which is very close to your 4070 Ti in performance) flying a Bonanza over a desert at 5000 AGL runs around 90 FPS/12ms latency on a 4K main and 2K secondary monitor. Are you getting the same numbers? If so, then you shouldn’t expect much more.
On the other hand, if you expect radically better performance in a complex airliner flying over NYC or some other area, then maybe you need to manage your expectations. This sim is running highly unoptimized code, and even the best systems can struggle at times.
What we consider ‘upgrades’ to our systems can be disappointing at times, because the sim itself can be so demanding.
GPU bottleneck.
Might be best running some benchmarks and compare with other like systems. Also, which AI traffic program are you running? This can unfortunately bring even the most powerful systems to their knees. Like most folks, I just hate the emptiness so I accept the hit.
Are you sure your memory is running at its rated speed? Check with CPU-Z memory and SPD tabs.
I don’t use ai traffic. Only vatsim.
About the memory. In bios it’s says it runs at 6000 MHz. That is with expo profile activated.
May I suggest running this test software? Then run it on your friend’s system?
Basically, you run the sim while the test software is running. Lots of good info.
It’s not too hard to figure out how to use it.
Sorry for youre bad experience… FS needs just the strongest GPU you can get.
Bought a 4090 and that was the best investment…
Is there typically a big difference between the two?
Looking at Tom’s Hardware’s benchmarks, at 1080p (CPU limited), the 5800X3D scores 129.1 / 170.5 fps (min / avg) while the 7800X3D scores 145.6 / 181.0 fps.
So for the average numbers, that’s only a gain of 6%, meaning where you had 50 fps previously and was CPU limited, you should now have about 53 fps. When GPU limited the gain would be much smaller and typically zero.
But SHOULD there be a noticeable difference between 5800/7800 X3D’s for MSFS?
Using 4K will be GPU-limited for most GPUs, which means GPU frametime will control performance and not the CPU.
Sorry OP, but you should have considered upgrading the GPU at 4K and not what you’ve done.
Yeah, 4070Ti on 4k + two additional monitors, seem a bit on the edge → GPU limited → little difference with your CPU change, as others say.
Im on a 7900x3d + 4080(16Gb) ‘3,9k’ resolution (5120x1440), and Im running out of Vram in DX12 if I don’t tune things down. And thats 4Gb more than the 4070Ti.
The puzzling thing to me is that he said he built the same system for a friend, and his ‘impression’ is that the friend’s system performs better.
His friend is probably not on a 4k monitor.
