747 engines start without fuel pumps

I am able to start engines normally on Boeing 747 without turning any fuel pumps on. I have already logged a Zendesk case for this, however I was curious to know if anyone else had experienced this behavior in the 747 or any other aircraft?

It’s not a bug. Basically all airliners can be gravity fed if the tanks are full. The pumps are only providing a regulated pressure during all stages of flight and to enable x-feed.

not a bug, normal gravity operations on full tanks

Thank you both for the response - I will remove my Zendesk ticket.

Follow-up question: Is there any situation where you wouldn’t turn the fuel pumps on in normal operation?

In case of a fire  If still on the ground… run Forrest… run away!
