7800X3D and RTX 4090 performance issues

Nice link, unfortunately it’s last post was in October 2021. Things may have changed a little

Haha that was my post. And I wasn’t happy with 30FPS!

@SourishLemur635 are you only testing your FPS at airports? Set your traffic setting right down (humans, planes, vehicles) that should make a huge difference, more than LoD.

What do you get in flight, 140+ FPS I bet.

I have a 13600KF + 4080 and with FG on, 4k mostly ultra, I get 60-100FPS at airports and around 130+FPS in flight.

Yep, I used DDU for the Nvidia driver and rolled back to the one people said is the most stable. Also updated the AMD chipset driver, BIOS is the latest version and this is on a fresh Windows install so asides from Chrome there isn’t anything else on the PC.

From checking HWiNFO the CPU is using around 50 watts, around the same as it does in single core benchmarks.

Community folder was empty in the vids I posted here.

Not sure what else to do at this point lol :no_mouth:

I am! I get around 100 in flight. Lowering the settings does help a bit but even then, it’s not completely smooth. The FG with FPS in the 30s has a lot of artifacts when panning and it doesn’t iron out the stutters from the CPU struggling.

But it’s also what I replied to the other guy, with the money I spent for this upgrade, I was expecting to not have to turn settings down, it feels like a waste.

It’s even worse because I see videos online of people with lesser systems getting a much smoother experience with higher settings.

Actually haven’t gone into that part of the BIOS, I think the PBO setting is set to auto. What should I be looking for there?

Start here. My board is different, but the settings are pretty much the same across all of them, maybe in slightly different places. Don’t take everything he says as true or correct, but it’s a good starting place.

Either way something isn’t right. I’m getting better performance than that with the 5800x3D & 3090 in 4K and Ultra settings (with a couple of things over Ultra).

I’d start with the bios, make sure XMP is on etc, then into Windows and check powerplans, that FS is set to high performance in the graphics settings etc. In bios, with the x3d chips there’s not much you can do but XMP (I forget the AMD name) is critical to have on.

I would then run UserBenchMark. People slate it because it’s not ‘cool’, but it will tell you within a couple of minutes if your machine is in the right ballpark. If something isn’t right it will at least point you in the right direction.

There is no question that with heavy 3rd party scenery and the PMDG 737 or Fenix Airbus you should be seeing at least 60fps sat at the gate.

XMP is on, the Windows power plan is set to high performance.

Just ran UserBenchMark and it seemed to go pretty well lol, I don’t understand what the issue is.

Did it point to anything else? Memory, disk etc or was that all good?

In the windows graphics settings is MSFS set to high performance?

This is what HWiNFO shows when running MSFS in one of those heavy airports.

Memory and disk seems all good too, and yep, MSFS is set to high performance.

Someone else was having similar issues and a Windows reinstall solved it:

Not what you want to hear but worth noting.

That’s all good then.

What about your in-game settings, particularly the traffic?

It’s all set to ultra, LOD set to 400/300. Traffic is off.

I’ve already done 2 clean reinstalls, to try Windows 10 and 11. Didn’t help :frowning:

Ok. LOD 400 is a problem for sure, particularly at intensive airports. Out in the sticks in GA aircraft it’s fine, but airliners at 3rd party airports near photogrammetry? Forget it IMHO.

What about traffic? Airport vehicles, persons, road traffic etc?

I suspect, by the looks of it, that your resolution isn’t working your graphics card enough and you’re overloading your CPU. The engine is such that even a new-gen x3D can’t handle it.

Try LOD 205/300 and see how that is. I’ll bet it’s way better. Try setting airport vehicles to 1, get rid of airport personnel entirely, set road vehicles to less than 50 and so on. The sim is more realistic for it anyway, and it vastly improves CPU times.

I’m confident those things will change your experience for the better.

As mentioned previously your LOD does look higher than default. If I was you I’d explore your BIOS, update if possible and review your pbo/curve optimiser and ram settings if LOD doesn’t help, good luck!

I’m not so sure about the 7800X3D, whilst it can give great fps the 1% low’s seem they could be better.

For every 50 captures on a takeoff roll with same settings (No traffic etc, clear skies etc) this is the average performance, note the 3 stutters after takeoff.

Then the 7800X3D will churn this out maybe 1 in 50 if I am lucky, same settings etc.

A huge difference especially when nothing has changed. Going to RMA my rig and hopefully see if other 7800X3D’s perform differently or maybe explore the 7950X3D which would need a lot more configuring from what I hear…

With game mode on in windows, and game bar. The 7950x3d will game automatically using the cache, and park the cores on the other die.. SMT disabled giving me the best results in msfs so far.

The BIOS is updated, the RAM has the EXPO profile set. What should I be looking for with PBO? I’m new to AMD so not sure how it works here.

Also, I’ve done tests with the terrain LOD, and pretty much confirmed that’s the issue. Setting every setting to maximum (including object LOD), but leaving the terrain LOD at 10, makes everything super smooth, never dropping below 60 FPS with no stutters. Bringing that setting up completely kills the performance though, 100 already brings the stutters and low FPS back.

Really not sure what to do, the issues seem to be all CPU related but the CPU benchmarks are all fine and even above average :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

It’s definitely LOD, have tested it. I checked the traffic settings but it didn’t seem to make a big difference.
The thing is, even 100 TLOD brings the CPU to its knees, which I’m pretty sure shouldn’t be happening with such a high end chip.
