I have the ASRock X670E Taichi mb and a new bios was released for that board as well.
They are emphasizing updating for 7***X3d processors (I have the 7950X3d).

Would you join a thread about this topic guys? As a general discussion, it is a very interesting topic, and I feel the need to all share their findings on this.
Since it includes several different cpus, not only 7800x3D, it could be really helpful and even life saving for some.
Hi, I’m reading the above, and my budget would be to either platform upgrade to the 7800x3d, or the processor swap to the 5800x3d in more or less 4K or dlss 4k quality, I have a 5900x would it be better to just stick with that processor, considering I’ll basically only have navigraph running ?
My humble opinion: anybody who is already on AM4 non 3D and is using the sim without VR, just with a couple of companion apps, I would say switch to 5800X3D and use any additional budget towards a good GPU.
This is not related to the issues described above, I just happen to think 5800X3D has great value for most MSFS users.
For someone who is not on AM4, if there is a need to build a new system anyhow, get a new motherboard and CPU, etc… the equation is different imho. Might as well invest in AM5 as a new platform, given it is going to be around for a few years.
As for Intel, Raptor Lake is good, I just don’t like the idea of switching motherboards each time a new gen CPU is out, I wish upgrade paths were easier.
Also if you are doubting about jumping over AM5 and it’s still out of your budget. I suggest to wait a little bit more. Early adopting it’s always risky.
AM4 also had some issues at the initial phase (ram issues if I recall correctly).
So, by waiting a few more months you can save more money and avoid those early issues that will need several updates to make the platform rock stable.
An AM5 user opinion xD
This is exactly what I did. I decided (back in Dec 2022) to build a new PC and had determined through research that the 5800X3d was the best CPU for MSFS 2020. However seeing that AMD was about to release a newer X3d CPU, and feeling that they would not be worse than the 5800X3d (for MSFS), I decided to wait and spec’d a PC with an AM5 motherboard. I’ve had no problems at all with my 7950X3d. Admittedly I have not pushed MSFS to its limits as of yet, but no issues there either. As for the 7800X3d, it appears to be a reasonable choice for a lower price.
But, if i DID already have an AM4 mb, I would have snapped up a 5800X3d for sure, just to leverage my hardware a little further.
Next round of ASUS BIOS update… Beta version tho…
I have never updated my BIOS as much as in the last two weeks ![]()
great! thanks for the advice! I have a 3090 and won’t be upgrading for this generation so I’m looking to get a bit more frames in a logical manner ![]()
I also have an AM4 system with a 5900x and have considered purchasing the 5800x3D. The 5900x is a very capable processor with more cores running at a higher frequency so actually more powerful than a 5800x3D in many respects. While the 5800x3D I’m sure would get a little more smoothness/fluidity with the sim I don’t think it’s going to get more fps. My current 5900x is OC’d and undervolted and I run in 4k w/HDR10 on all ultra settings locked at 40fps on an QLED 55" TV and I already do enjoy a very beautiful, smooth sim experience (non-VR).
So for me, upgrading to an AM5 7000x3D system is the path that I will take probably within the next year or two. Quite frankly, since I’m a little GPU limited, upgrading my current RX 6800 to a high end GPU would get the most bang for the buck and would allow me to continue to use it on my future system. But even now with the RX 6800 since it has 16gig of Vram it works well with DX12 so I’m happy not to overspend crazy money on a new GPU
.
Sure ![]()
As the previous poster pointed out, 5800X3D is not about highest FPS count, it’s about bumping up 0.1 and 1% low FPS, so eliminating stutters as much as possible and better smoothness.
If you have a very capable 3090, the next logical step could be trying Frame Generation. However I find Nvidia did not include enough VRAM and went a bit too far with 40 series prices, hoping this will change soon ![]()
Just a little experience I had with my 7800x3d.
I was upgrading from a 7900X with an Asus Gene X670E custom water-cooled PC and an Asus 4090.
After 1 week of usage and tweaking the 7800x3d, I decided to try the 7950x3d and it definitely does matter. The 7800x3d is not a perfect match for MSFS with Volanta, Simlink, Navigraph, FSrealistic, Fenix, Discord etc. It felt so laggy, and the processor was running hot as heel. Always around 84 degrees. With the 7950x3d it’s a completely different story. The sim is butter smooth and snappy, everything works fine and as intended, and it runs a lot, really a lot cooler (around 51 degrees). My sim performed better with the 7900x as with the 7800x3d.
So if you can afford the choice, I would absolutely go with the 7950x3d or 7900x3d. The 7800x3d was a little waste for me.
I think there might have been something wrong with your 7800X3D chip or cooling.
With a 4090 the 7800X3D doesn’t get hotter than 64c for me in MSFS, even in Cinebench 80c is the hottest it will get.
That’s with a pretty basic 280 AIO cooler.
Same. Mine runs around 56°C with a 360mm AIO.
Possibly a bad chip but the statement remains the same. The 7950x3d is the better choice.
My 7800x3d scored according to its specifications (R20,R23 etc.)
84c? I did never see these temps, even when running benchmarks. And i use a 30bucks aircooler. LOL
In sim, it runs around 60c and i also have multiple programs open.
Did you reinstall Windows when switching from the 7900X to the 7800X3D?
I really don’t think your experience was typical.
I, too, have multiple MSFS support apps running and I’m not having the issues you’ve described.
For sure. I know a little bit about hardware; my 7950x3D is delidded.
As already mentioned, it worked according to its specifications (R20, R23), but for the Sim, it was a bad choice. Without any other program open, it worked well, but with all the traffic and programs, it bottlenecked the 4090 again.
Maybe it was a bad chip; such things can happen. But when you compare the temps with Skatterbencher, you will see that they are quite normal.
In Battlefield 2042, or COD, it was around 60 degrees. Only MSFS, with its programs and 90+% usage, made the CPU run that hot.
The two guys above have already mentioned that the 7800x3D is not enough for all the applications you need, and they were right.
So how do I explain that this isn’t the issue for me?
I guess I’ll just keep using this PC and let all y’all say it can’t work.
