Be advised:

I installed Chipset Software 5.05.16.529 today and found an error in Device Manager for AMD PSP 11.0 Device with the 5.24.0.0 driver installed as a part of the package.

It reported under Device Status: “STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE”

I rolled back to 5.22.0.0, (which displays as AMD PSP 10.0 in Device Manager) and the issue went away.

I’ve contacted AMD for assistance.

Did the same here, thanks for the heads up.

I see no errors in Device Manager, though I don’t see this device either.

PNPPropertiesError
After updating the AMD chipset driver, go into Device Manager and look under Security Devices. The AMD PSP will show 11.0 with a Bang! error. Right click on it and go to Properties to see the second image (under the General tab). The Driver tab will show 5.24.
If you do see the error here, you can click on Roll Back Driver here to 5.22 (and the AMD PSP will then show 10.0, rather than 11.0) This will NOT rollback the entire chipset update.
If you are at AMD PSP 11.0 and not showing any errors - the device is working properly - then you’re good.
If you don’t see the AMD PSP at all, well not sure what to make of that. I have a 7950X3d which is where these screenshots came from.

I’ve got a 7800X3D. I wonder if it is a motherboard chipset thing? My board has a B650E.

It appears to be an AMD CPU thing overall. My motherboard uses the X670E chipset, but found the same issue as yours. I believe this has to do with how the CPU enables/disables its cores, depending on model, etc.
I didn’t experience any issues with MSFS after updating the drivers, but rolled this one back anyway out of an abundance of caution. Anything that says “security” gets my attention.

All I’ve gotten out of AMD Support is to uninstall the chipset drivers via the uninstall apps function of Settings. If that didn’t work, to download and use the Windows uninstall tool. Then reinstall.

Neither of those options fixed the issue.

I’m awaiting their next “helpful” suggestion.

I’m OK with staying at 5.22 with the chipset still having been updated. I imagine the “fix” will be a 5.26 update sometime in the “near” future.

Asus Crosshair X670E Extreme board and 7950X3D CPU here…
No issues with the latest AMD chipset drivers. All looks good in Device Manager.

I first updated to the latest Windows cumulative Update Preview release – rebooted – uninstalled the old chipset driver package – rebooted – ran Windows Disk Cleanup – installed the new chipset package – rebooted.

I have Asus Crosshair x670e hero with 7900x3d, and I don’t see the reported issues with the newest drivers.

AMD asked me to:

  • Reset BIOS to default settings
  • Install a fresh copy of Windows 11 on a second SSD via ESD USB
  • Install all Windows updates
  • Install AMD Chipset Drivers
  • Install AMD Graphics Drivers (I have an RX 7900XTX)

I have done that, and the issue persists.

Awaiting their reply. I will update when I know more.

I would like to share my experiences with the change from 5800x3d (DDR4-3200) to 7800x3d (DDR5-6000).

It’s ~19% more performance when you’re at the main thread limit. With the 1% low and 0.1% low it is a little more, on average ~27%.

Tested with different standardized scenarios with Fenix, PMDG, G3000 TBM. Standing on the ground, standardized flight, etc.

So the extra performance corresponds exactly to what all tests indicate on average as extra performance over games in general and what I expected. The tests at many HW sites in relation to the MSFS are very confusing, admittedly it is also very difficult to get a standardized test procedure for the MSFS.

Thanks, very usefull information.
i’m on the fence about upgrading my 5800X to a 5800X3D, and maybe go from B450 to B550 too while i’m at it, because i kinda want to have PCI-e 4.0 for GPU and SSD’s as well, since i also want to upgrade those as well in the not to distant future.
But maybe i better just wait a year (to save up and have more money available).
It’s difficult to have patience
It’s probably smarter to keep the money in my pocket and save up more money for a year or so and then go B650 + 7800X3D + DDR5 + new GPU all at once (2060 Super now), and have an available upgrade path CPU wise on AM5.

Yeah, I would wait for an upgrade for the gpu. It is true MSFS is CPU bound, but I’m sure the 2060 is also a limiting factor for you.

There’s not much a 5800X3D can add if anything before you are totally GPU bound so more fps is unlikely except in the heaviest of scenery.

Your 5800X is a great cpu as it is but let me suggest a per core PBO undervolt using the Ryzen Master curve editor and transfering the result into the advanced cpu section in bios. And while you are there (unless you actually need the full 16 threads) then disable SMT.

True, especially when i want to make 4K MSFS content for my youtube channel.

Upgrading to the 5800X3D for me wouldn’t be so much about higher (average) fps(i play at 30fps anyway, on 60hz monitor with Vsync at 50%), but to get that bit of extra smoothness/(0,)1% lows with like big airliner at big/busy airports.

But saving up some more money and go all-in about a year from now with new 7800X3D (or 8000 series which is rumoured to release in 2024)/motherboard/DDR5/GPU is probably the smarter thing to do, instead of now/again dumping a couple of hundred € more into an already EOL AM4 platform.

It’s just that it still stings a bit that the 5800X3D dropped so much in price only a couple of months after i bought the 5800X. (When i bought 5800X it was € 300,- vs € 500,- for the 5800X3D, now you can get € 5800X3D for € 300,-)

Follow my advice with the negative curve undervolt and you will hardly notice the lows. My 5800X can boost to 5049MHz without hitting 90°C (even under stress tests) but I think the X3D can’t get over 4500. I realise cache does the rest but IMO not in every situation.

No doubt because folk have realised you need a top end gpu for it to be worth it and those that do and can afford it now have a better choice with the 7xxx’s.
