Hi, all. I recently “upgraded” to Premium Deluxe to fly the 787. I’ve gotten up in the air a handful of times, but have an issue - I have to set the trim at about -35 to keep from climbing straight up. No flaps, half-throttle, still the same. Is this normal, or any suggestions? Thanks, Mike
Make sure your weight and balance and center of gravity are within limits as that can cause very bad takeoff characteristics.
A normal takeoff in the 787 requires almost immediate nose down trim after lift off. This plane requires a lot of trimming compared to say an Airbus if that’s what you’re familiar with.
Thank you for the info. I’m surprised that the center of gravity on a newly installed aircraft would have to be adjusted, but I will check that. No, I don’t fly Airbus. Mike
You need to adjust the center of gravity depending on your payload.
That is true for all real world ops and is required in the sim as well.
It is not an issue with the aircraft.
OK, thanks. Being new to jetliners, could you tell me where I can find these adjustments? Mike
From the world planner.
After you select the aircraft, in the same section where you selected it, you will see the weight and balance section.
In there you will see a schematic on the right.
You may have to adjust the weights and location of your payload so that the Center of Gravity is ok.
The Cof G is displayed at the top of the schematic.
You may be able to adjust it with the slider that is there as well, I haven’t tried that in a while!
You must also enter weights and CG into the flight management computer so the plane can calculate a take-off trim setting, and you need to set that trim before takeoff.
Thanks so much! Mike
Nah, still have issues with excessive climbout even with shifting the center of gravity forward. Also, I’m having issues with the left engine on the 787 - it won’t spool up when I try and take off, so my plane veers off the runway and crashes. Haven’t been able to figure that one out, either. As well, I’m also having trouble with my PMDG 737 - when I load the aircraft, on the first flight it won’t take any input from my Honeycomb Alpha yoke; when I restart the flight, then it will use the yoke. Anyone? Thanks, Mike
Well, somehow I got the 787 to use both engines - I just went to Options / Controls and took out all command bindings I was not using regarding the engines, and somehow got the left hand engine to function. Don’t even know what I did, and don’t care. Still excessive climbout, thouth. Now I’m free to takeoff and crash on landing. Happy here. Still working on the 737 issue. Mike
