Hi all, I’m looking for information regarding the 9800X3D performance in VR, any shared information would be most welcome such as Development FPS overlays and Core utilisation, I’ve currently got a i9 12900 + 4090 and need to decide to move to i9 14900 or 9800X3D.
PLEASE: Just just requested information as above, don’t turn this thread into an Intel degradation topic or 2024 launch disaster discussion. Many thanks in advance
I wish I could. I ordered a custom built system with a 9800X3D back on the 10/12. But they aren’t estimating a build until mid December because of CPU stock.
I’m quite sure that 9800x3d will give better performance in sims than 14900.
Not in VR. I’ve got one and I just don’t see a huge improvement. Had a 12700K in MSFS2020, and I still get ~10% less performance in MSFS2024. I really don’t see anything wonderful in 2020. It might be smoother, but my FPS is not dramatically improved.
Note I also went from 32GB to 64GB ram and new mobo/memory.
I suppose when the 5090 comes along it will provide a good foundation, but my VR experience is still stuck at trying to achieve the 40FPS.
After seeing SO many videos showing it’s superiority, I started to believe this would make a huge difference, but it simply didn’t for VR
What video card are you running now? You might be limited by that. If you go into dev mode & bring up the fps data, it will show you if you’re CPU / main thread or GPU limited.
Wait, you’re saying that you have 10% less FPS in FS2024 with a 9800X3D than you did with an i9-12700?
no 2024 vs 2020.
I’ll answer my own question as I received my cpu yesterday, it performs exactly the same as a 14900 in MSFS 2024, but at substantially lower temperatures.
You wrote earlier that you had a 12900K CPU and now you have a 9800X3D. So how on earth are you comparing the Ryzen 7 9800X3D to the i9 14900K if you haven’t had that CPU?
It’s called Amazon, my room looks like PC World at the moment
Did you run any tests or did you just try MSFS 2024?
Just MSFS 2024, I’m having to switch out motherboards so not ideal, just used the dev fps counter over repeat flight plan conditions ect. Both cpus look the same, but I’m not checking .1% lows, I wanted to see an uplift even if small but they both seem to give the same performance 14900 vs 9800x3d. I’m likely going to keep the amd as due to future proofing. Simhanger will be doing a professional benchmark in the coming weeks
Thank you for the detailed explanation.
