And that’s unfortunately also the way it went when Dovetail Games took over FSX a while back for some time, issuing FSX Steam edition, then Flight School, and finally Flight Sim World, after which they threw in the towel
Of course their products were not as much appealing and advanced as is MSFS today, but the Steam forums were filled of horrible and disgusting personal comments against the Dovetail teams, to such a point that the CEO himself had to interfere and remind everyone about the good codes of conduct and basics of courtesy
Really a shame
I hope this will not come to this end with MSFS when I read some comments here
Sorry for my approximative English, and to finish, a few famous French proverbs - surely there are also some others - to illustrate my comment:
Rome ne s’est pas fait en 1 jour, Roma did not made in 1 day, an allusion to the power and magnificence of the Roma Empire
La critique est aisée, mais l’art est difficile, criticism is easy, art difficult
Ne tirez pas sur les pianistes , don’t shoot the pianist !!
While I am loathe to opine in line with the majority, this is one of the rare occasions in which it is warranted. Going way back I’ve voiced similar sentiments and at least once actually saw an overall improvement in tone and content of posts (that I read LOL). Seriously this is incredibly disrespectful to the development team (Asobo) and to a lesser extent Microsoft. Asobo has IMHO done nothing short of revolutionary to this genre. I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it when necessary: From a 4 inch Compaq Portable Desktop Computer screen in monochrome until this software I’ve bought them all (military, GA, ATP, rotarywing) good (rare) and mediocre or bad (most) but the gems were in their own way amazing. This however is a leap forward in every metric.
No sim has had detailed default a/c like this. None, not even Fly!. They fly pretty ■■■■ well, and with exception of the sometimes frustrating bugs (that are being knocked out methodically) are a joy to fly. Do I experience the same bugs you do? Probably but I don’t view the world pessimistically. No sim has had a world that matched the one we live in every day. My house has my car in the driveway for crying out loud! No sim has had a weather engine this dynamic and with the wide range of conditions it can generate. No sim has had ATC like this, Jane’s F-18 was good but not this good…well I’m on the ‘fence’ on that one. Maybe if I can ‘marshal’ up some examples we could truly compare. Anyway to the point…No sim has had content so easy to create that is so detailed and life like. No sim has had a means of distribution of payware add-ons like this sim.
I could go on but I am a keyboard jockey all day and nights some (too many) and my carpal is already killing me. Suffice it to say OP is right: the behavior here is nothing short of embarrassing. Even the AVSIM MSFS forum is tame compared to this which really surprised me having been absent from there for a decade. We don’t desire an echo chamber so removing any negativity won’t do, but if those with something to say cannot craft constructive criticism perhaps they shouldn’t be on the rolls here. Or they should be ignored completely like children until they learn their bad behavior will not be rewarded with the attention of the adults.
That should be the case irrespective since the Code of Conduct does not look kindly on posts relating to politics whatever they may be. We can all love or hate our own government or those of others but a flight sim forum is not the place to express it
Oh god I remember Dovetail’s Flight Sim World. It was an ambitious project to take FSX and modernize it.
I stood by the devs and tried to make bug reports, feature recommendations, and support the ongoing development as much as I could, but yes, they ultimately quit the development and pulled the game from Steam, I presume from all the abuse they got from people buying the game and immediately ripping them apart.
At the time, FSW could have been a great competitor to the other sims out there, but the blasting Dovetail Games got online for taking that project on put a nail in that coffin.
If there’s anything I loathe in the video game industry, it’s users/customers that will find the smallest reason to hate a video game, and consequently go so far to make sure they’re the loudest voice in the room without providing any useful feedback to the developers. Part of the reason why I quit software development years ago.
Dovetail might have been more successful with FS, if the started off with the ESP codebase, instead of the FSX code, but maybe MS was keeping that for a rainy day – which now came.
I strongly suspect, that actually, Asobo got the ESP code - but I am so far out of the loop now, I have no real isdea,
I’ve found the new patch really good one. No big issues so far…
But there are still some individuals posting a repeated (the same) complaints every couple minutes within the new Discussion: World Update I: Japan - #343 by nwradu thread. It may really disturb other people discussion about their opinion on new patch…
Yes, but there are still problems, and these are not just complaints. I think, first of all, that skyscrapers and large houses have appeared everywhere in the villages. Why should we rejoice at the following mistakes?
But, bearing in mind that having just applied the latest patch followed by a bug free test flight, such that I am just now in too a good mood to to get bogged down with much, perhaps you would like to try again?
