Obviously, everyone is concerned about their add-on collection rolling over seamlessly as a major concern and that’s more or less been confirmed by MS and 3rd parties.
I had a couple other non-feature specific questions for MS/Asobo for a future Q/A.… This is mainly focused on ease of transition to the new platform, and it would be great to hear some feedback on a dev live stream when possible.
.
Will player progress/profile transfer from 2020 to 2024 ( logbook, lessons, bush trips, completion, achievements, etc )
Will ( some ) player settings transfer over? - mainly thinking about control profiles, as this is a pain to redo
Will 2024 include all the current content from MS/Asobo ( planes, airports, lessons, challenges, etc )
Will any content updates to 2020, after 2024 is released, also be included / available in 2024 ( local legends, etc )
Will some of the planned features for 2020 be held back for 2024? ( shared cockpit, scenery gateway, etc )
If we buy 2024, is there any reason to keep 2020 installed? ( if 2024 will have the same content as 2020, plus more? )
I can answer with a certain confidence only to no. 6 at the moment. Most probably no: being a full stand alone sim I believe you could delete MSFS and keep only FS2024.
I don’t think you’ll get that answered any time soon. No one - except Asobo - knows more than was in the FAQ. And Asobo will probably not share that info as a reply to a forum post.
Even Asobo is probably at this point not sure about all these points. It’s in development.
If I was a betting man, I would put a bit of money on them making it as painless/seamless as possible. As the Controls Configs and Flight Log is held in the cloud, it should offer to migrate that when you first run though the new installation after logging in your account. Like you do when setting up a new phone (as new or import data).
I’m sure all current content (planes, challenges, trips etc) will be the same. It will just have additional stuff.
Other stuff I bet they don’t even know themselves yet.
As for keeping 2020 installed. A lot of people won’t have the disk space to have 2 installations concurrently so that could be a problem with migrating. But if as I said the Configs are pulled from cloud then I suppose you could uninstall first. All unknowns though really! I bet we won’t know until a week before release.
I just did a lot of betting - lucky it ain’t real money.
Possibly, as you are still using the same XBox account to run the sim.

The FAQ states that most addons on the Marketplace will work with 2024, but doesn’t go into any detail of what might not, not even as far as the type of addon.
I suspect it will more of the reverse case, of what addons for 2024 will be available in 2020. Where there are no blocking technical constraints, I don’t see why not.
There is some small evidence that this is already the case. I believe one item from the wish list has disappeared, hinting that it may not be fixed in 2020, but may appear in 2024.
When 2024 comes out, as long as the majority of my addons work in 2024, I will uninstall it.
The only folks who can answer these questions are not going to post those answers here.
So this is just a waste of time. Answering snakily certainly does not help either.
Have a nice day … and keep hitting that refresh for that answer from Asobo that will prove me wrong
It will be like Windows 10 to 11 ; some added stuff (e.g. the missions), some improvements maybe (threading) but the same code running in the same way. Probably with decorations to make it look a bit different.
I know they won’t answer here. You didn’t read the post.
All I care is they read the questions and address them at some point in the future.
I’m not looking for answers from the community, it’s all total speculation at this point, and that’s not really useful - but feel free to add additional questions that would benefit everyone.
100% agree. At the moment very few, if any have any significant details about 2024, so it’s all random guesswork by imaginative community member. No doubt MS/Asobo are still working it all out, and we will be told what is what, when we are eventually told.
I feel sorry for any 2020 3PDs, looking towards 2024, without answers as to how to plan go forward.
They have at least been informed that the SDK will continue to work and be updated. For them (and you, I count you as a 3PD) it sounds like a significant SU rather than a reinvention of the wheel (wing).
But Windows 11 has also removed some functionality which was available in Windows 10 (e.g. ability to dock task bar to left or right side of screen, showing captions on task bar).
Agree with the other folks here, you’re not going to get any answers to those questions until Microsoft and Asobo come forward with more information.
Also as others have said, it makes sense to use the cloud data where applicable so you would think your log book and controls will be pulled from that space, however it really depends also what’s in the new sim and how much it may have changed.
No guarantee that the content will be like for like, so bush trips and landing challanges might be phased out, we just don’t know.
Maybe too much hand-wringing until it is actually out and operational performance is evident - they have promised “backward compatibility” and ability to transfer all add-on’s, better use of hardware resources … from what we have been told, there is the potential for improvement in many areas … hopefully at the Aug developer’s conference they will be available for more detailed questions …
Most addons. I am sure there will be some things that won’t work. Like STRPR. That overrides some of the way that MSFS 2020 works, but it works on the executable. It might not even be needed for FS2024.
There will probably be some things that will need tweaks too. But the same is true for sim/world updates too.
