The A320 autopilot does not recognise my inputs for some reason?
I have been flying other aircraft including all the GA aircraft and I have no problem with the autopilots, but I can’t get my head around the A320 autopilot.
Any help here would be good.
[PS, please treat me like the idiot that I am]
Welcome to A320 flying… Unfortunately, there’s really no easy way to operate an Airbus Autopilot, especially if you’re used to other aircraft autopilot. Heck even Boeing airliner and Airbus airliner has a completely different autopilot systems.
I suggest you learn by watching this channel’s tutorials. There’s a lot to cover, but once you get the hang of it, You’ll be gold.
Feel free to also check out my A320 Full Flight livestream. There’s no tutorial there, but I record everything I do in all my flights. So maybe you can pick up a trick or two.
Well, you’re an idiot, don’t ever fly again… …ok….just kidding, you’re not an idiot.
All the other APs are working slightly different to an Airbus AP. (Don’t tell about the 787, didn’t flown that bird often)
GA Autopilots are, let’s say an easy way, more manually APs, instead of an Airbus AP which is designed to get its input mainly from the FMS System.
When you take a look at the AP Section, you will find your well known rotary encoder to set Speed, Altitude and so on. These encoder has a second function. You can pull and push them and these functions are the entry for you to understand how to use that Autopilot.
For your first steps without a flightplan you can use it the same way like you know from the GA Planes. The only difference is, you need to pull the encoder to get the „manually“ mode enabled. I.e, you want to fly a HDG. Pull the encoder and your HDG Display will change from —- to the actual heading. Than you can change it and the Aircraft will follow. Push that button and the AP will follow your flightplan again.
It’s just a simple description and there are many things to watch, but for your first flights it may be helpful.
Great replies, thanks, it’s appreciated.
