A320 neo sluggish climb

During the climb out with the A320 I am finding the rate of assent quite slow. A simple climb to FL 330 with half load and 6000 Lbs of fuel is giving me a max climb of 1000 fpm with either climb thrust and TOGA is no better? That’s a bit sluggish? This result in that horrid ATC voice constantly telling me to expedite my climb. What’s going on? Surely that can’t be right

If you want a more accurate flight model, I highly recommend the free FBW A320.
It is available from a website or the marketplace.

I’ve got the new Leap version NX it works fine

I actually prefer the default then the FBW but it’s not perfect. Yes the climb is slower which why I usually don’t fly above 31,000 ft. Try setting your cost index to about 10, this seems to help. But it flies pretty decent. I just wish it had the autoland feature. I don’t fly the FBW for one reason, I can’t stand the outside jet sound. It’s way too harsh and I feel like it’s going to blow my speaker. Also takes forever to load.

Just in case you are not aware, you can turn down the external volume independently on the settings page of the flypad. It helps.

I don’t really know why others have the slow climb issue with the FBW A320 but I don’t seem to have this problem. I haven’t made any changes to the config files

The external sounds are very realistic, that’s why it’s loud. Just turn the volume down in the efb.

When in “open climb mode” the auto pilot will also be looking at the set air speed. If the plane has not at and/or is struggling to get to the set air speed then it will not climb. I read that 270 knots is the most efficient speed for the A320 to climb. I set mine to around 250-270 knots and it climbs fine all the way up to 39000 feet.

I set 320 and climb until mach 0.77 then hold mach. No climb issues.

I usually take off and climb until FL380/390 and I usually reach my cruising altitude around 15-20 minutes after take off. I don’t see that as an issue.

Did a flight EHRD to LSZA and didn’t reach FL 330 until well south of ELLX some 160 or so miles. So about 80 miles short of realistic I guess

Works fine for me (FBW A32NX) with CI15, 100pax, 6t fuel, flex temp 60deg, CLB THR set and cruise FL310, speed 290kts IAS (AP, Auto THR engaged and rest fully managed - FCU knobs pressed (not pulled)).

Maybe share your MCDU, FCU, Lever settings / pictures or videos … so people can help better.

It’s realistic if you are standing right outside the aircraft. But for sim purposes it’s ridiculous. If you are standing outside an A320 and then standing outside a C152 of course the jet is going to be a lot louder. But it’s laptops or computer speakers, we are talking about here, not real life. Even up the volumes so I don’t have to constantly adjust sound levels. If I turn down the outside sound, then the inside sound is too soft. See what I’m getting at. Just curious, is there a way to use the default A320 outside sound with the FBW? Cuz that outside jet engine sound has to go!

Make sure that you switch from IAS to Mach at ~FL280.
Above the crossover altitude you always fly Mach, not IAS.
(You can’t fly 290kias at higher FL).

The slow climb issue is with the default A320, not the FBW A320.

You can adjust the exterior volume separate from the interior volume in the EFB.

But then if I go to another plane I have to readjust again. So…
