I’d say you may use it just for the approach itself. Keep in mind that in real life it doesn’t happen very often to fly an entire approach in managed mode, because of shortcuts, vectors and so on. Most often we play with open descent (level change in Boeing planes) and vertical speed to fine tune the descent
