A320 Starting Altitude is way to high when starting in air?

Hello, So I’m trying to get used to using the IFR flight plans to test out auto-landing on the A320neo but
Whenever I set up Airport to Airport by IFR (Low-alt airways) and if I choose a waypoint that is in the air so I can practice just the landings, I start at a really high altitude (Like 25000 to 30000) for the flight I’m trying to do which means I never can make the Airport I’m trying to land at. Is there something I’m missing when setting up the flight with the IFR?
Thanks in advance =)

After setting up the route hit “nav log” there you can set your cruise altitude
