A320neo V2 managed speed vs selected speed - I am confused

Ciao guys,
today during a short flight from Venice LIPZ to Klagenfurt LOWK, while still in the climbing phase, I got an overspeed alert, so I did switch to selected (manual) mode to respect the 250 knots while still below 10.000fts.
Once I reached the 10.000fts I wanted to revert back to managed speed, but unable to do so …I cannot think of a possible mistake of mine, but it is clear that I was somehow wrong …
I have read topics related to the problem to revert back to managed for the HDG, but I did not find a discussion about the similar problem for the speed control.
If there is such a discussion, please just post me the link.

Thanks as usual for your help
Have a nice day

Need some more information. Are you using simbrief for flightplan? Sounds like there was a problem with the flightplan.

The speed knob is a 3-way switch - turn/push/pull. I always forget whether push or pull was needed to go back to managed mode, but you can try both. In my case push is right mouse button, pull = middle button (scroll click).

IRL pull for selected speed, push to close the window for managed speed.

In Clmb throttle detent?

Correct

Do you have the managed speeds in your flight plan MCDU, if you don’t then that would cause you this problem.

Ciao and thanks for your kind replies !

  1. Yes the flight plan was imported via EFB from Simbrief
  2. Yes, I know the push-pull-rotation functioning of the speed selector
  3. Yes the throttle was in the “Climb” position
  4. Not sure the MCDU had the managed speed properly set up

This said, I will pay attention to the MCDU next time I fly the A320 V2, to check the managed speed is properly set …I did not think to check this, because in all my previous flights with the A320 I have never faced this problem.
That’s why I wanted to ask you guys IF somebody else faced this same problem of not being able to reactivate the managed mode after passing temporarily in selected mode.

Thanks again, have a nice day

If you don’t have a paid simbrief/navigraph subscription your default simbrief flight plans wont contain speed and height references.

Are you sure? Been using (free) Simbrief with the A310, PMDG 737 and the A320 V2 and all my flight plans have both speed and height, and I can use managed modes in all of those aircraft…

You maybe right, but I’ve never been able to get it to work on the MCDU for the Airbus v2. So if you have instructions using the free version of simbrief that would be good.

I must be missing something.

Strange… I simply download the flight plan to the EFB and then load it into the MCDU, nothing else.

I only did 10-15 flights with it, so maybe it does not work on some routes… I don’t know… I assume you have filled the PERF page and selected your departure and arrival, right?

Same with me, I do not have a paid subscription to Navigraph navdata, but all this implies is that more often than no, the SID and/or the STAR that I can select in the MCDU is different from what Simbrief proposes …and to my understanding this is due to the obsolete AIRAC …
Apart from this, I always fly simbrief FP wil all the aircraft with no problem for what concerns the “managed” heading and the managed vertical profile.

I have indeed, all filled in Take off speeds, perf page, loaded flight plan and route. If I use the paid version with the updated AIRAC all works fine.

Yep, free version here, always have speeds and altitudes.

Could you let us know what you are doing to see this in the MCDU please on the Airbus 320 Neo v2.

Dont think Im doing anything special. Make the plan on simbrief. I really only input flight number, departure and arrival airports, select the a320n, and inibuilds v2. In the aircraft, I import the simbrief plan on the tablet, import the simbrief load. From there, I go to the mdcu after irs is aligned of course and request plan on init page. Enter flight number and CI. Request my clearance, and select my departure and arrivals. Then I go back to init (page2) and just hit the soft keys next to weights and fuel. It should be the values on simbrief and the tablet. I do notice i do not have speeds or altitudes on mdcu until this is done. Do my performance calc, enter that in and then im off.

Same routine as per AlphaZer01125 short but precise description.
Here below I post a few snapshot I have taken while entering the Simbrief FP from LIMC to LFPG …I probably fly this route tomorrow

Have a nice weekend,

Your payload never registered as you can see dashes on your GW-

Make sure you are entering payload on the mdcu on the second page of init, by hitting your right arrow

Exactly. That seems to be the issue.

The MCDU must have all the data to compute the VNAV, Speeds, Altitudes, etc etc. Nothing to do with Navigraph subscription.
