A321 Sudden Autopilot Disconnect, TOGA LOCK, Rapid Climb, and Switch from NAV to Heading Mode

12 February 2025 Update:

This happened again yesterday over NYC on a flight from CYUL (Montreal) to KMIA (Miami) at FL380. However, there was a difference: while the throttles were at cruise the flight display showed TOGA LOCK. Regardless, I was not able to recover control of the aircraft and had to abort. This was with the regular Xbox Game Pass version of the game as I uninstalled the beta earlier in the day

29 February 2025 Update:

While this issue continues to occur I have realized that only the Inibuilds developed Airbus airliners are affected. The A320 (v2) has yet to exhibit the bug after multiple plays. The A321 by Inibuilds repeatedly fails. And it fails earlier and earlier during the flight. When I first submitted this bug report one had to fly for sometime before the issue occurred. Now the A321 experiences the issue soon after takeoff. The last during a flight from Lutton to Brussels, the TOGA LOCK, autopilot disconnect, and rapid climb occurred just after engaging the autopilot after wheels up.

March 1, 2025 Update:

My previous update regarding the A320n Version 2 not experiencing this bug was incorrect.

This morning flying the same Lytton to Brussels route, the bug triggered the issue as I was on final at 2000 on final approach.

Same issue with nearly all iniBuilds airplanes. From A400M till the new A350. Only iniBuilds.

The autopilot doesn’t work properly! Sometimes it doesn’t even follow the designated route, and at some point, it completely gives up on tracking it. In short, a well-known bug (tested in FRANCE and PĂ©ru !)

I guess they are too busy making and selling new and therefore cannot fix kit already sold and in use.

I have the same issues with the a321. I managed to have one good flight, but the second flight the autopilot disengaged and while it will reengae, it will no longer follow the assigned altitude

I experienced this issue too. The reason this is happening is because your aircraft is either over speeding or under speeding. In Airbus Aircraft, when the aircraft overspeeds, the autopilot automatically disconnects and the aircraft veers upwards to slow itself down.

So what then, is the solution.
Try a few things:

  1. Make sure that your aircraft is actually on autothrottle. Do this by making sure that your throttle lever is in Climb mode, otherwise the autothrottle won’t actually do anything and you’re just stuck in TOGA. This should prevent you from overspeeding.
  2. On climb, it’s quite likely that you’ll underspeed if you are using the VFPM mode to climb. Instead, you should use selected altitude mode when climbing to ensure that the VFPM changes to ensure that you are at a stable speed.

Hope this helps!
