Now your above comment would be an interesting thread don’t you think?
This one is done and dusted andnothing we can do about it except wait.
There will always be bugs, like with every software, and especially in such a complex one as a flight simulator is. It only depends how serious they are and if they’re not game stoppers. That’s how bigger companies work. Apparently those airplanes haven’t met their internal criteria. Yet. It will get released eventually and I don’t really get the hysteria around it.
I don’t think this specific delay of these specific planes is the root cause of the hysteria. In a vacuum, yes, I would agree that some of the responses and posts about this delay are a bit outrageous.
I think the hysteria is a culmination of a seemingly increasing amount of breakdowns in communication over the recent months.
I’ve been a staunch supporter of Asobo since the very first days of the 2020 release, and I continue to think that MSFS 2020 and by extension 2024, are the best iterations of the FS series, and are perhaps some of the most technologically ground breaking consumer software to ever be released.
With that being said, the communication has been fairly lackluster by pretty much any standard.
True, they honestly don’t owe us anything. If they wanted to, they could develop this whole sim in a vacuum and not give any care to what we’re saying. But you would think that in such a niche, passionate genre, feedback should be given more weight. This isn’t a demographic that necessarily ages out, like a CoD or Fortnite demographic might - at least not as quickly. Flight Sim users tend to stay in the hobby for a very long time, and through that, gain a whole lot of experience (and opinions
). Flight Simmers are no strangers to delays, but also like being talked to/communicated with.
Late last year started a number of months of silence, followed by a generally bland Dev Update, followed by a SU with some good changes but no clear direction, followed by a delayed AAU4 (and remember AAU4 got delayed twice - it was originally supposed to release alongside SU5). From an outsider’s perspective, it doesn’t seem like the Dev Team has a strong grasp on what they’re doing. Missing a date that you announce only 6 days in advance is quite frankly a horrible look. I’m sure they’ll turn it around, at least I hope so.
Well, I personally hate negativism and I think the communication is not bad at all - they issue weekly development updates with some information and also livestreams with lots of info. My philosophy is just let them work but I get that some people get very impatient when waiting for a toy. Yesterday it was officially announced that those three airplanes will be delayed and I just don’t know what more info one would need. So I stand by my opinion that this is just a storm in a teacup. And I hope I’ll finally learn to ignore such threads.
I agree, however modernity and social media has brought about an expectation of instant gratification. People are finding it very difficult to endure disappointment nowadays.
There are many things that MS/Asobo don’t do to meet communication expectations from the dev team - (excluding the Community managers and Moderators here) but in the end one is compelled to learn to accept. What else could one do?
As I have highlighted previously, with 20,000,000 users, as per Jorg, we can stamp our feet as much as we want it won’t make a jot of difference.
So, we have to live with it - just get on and fly and enjoy what we do have.
I love the positivity. I don’t mean to defend the negativism (although it may appear that I’m adding to it myself, which to an extent I am). I’m just trying to explain why people seem to be so bent out of shape about this seemingly trivial delay.
To each their own - while I may seem fired up, trust that I’m not losing sleep over flight sim ![]()
There seems to be quite a bit of hyperbole here. I’ve been very critical of MSFS2024 - mainly the hype that went with the launch of the sim and the fact that we paid for a product 18 months ago, and it’s still not in a fit state - I still use MSFS2020, as I’m so frustrated with 2024. That said, there are more important things in life and, if like me, one gets frustrated with the sim, then take a break from it. OK, I’m fortunate - here in the UK, summer is approaching, so I’m doing other stuff at the moment, away from the sim.
Enjoy your summer!
Asobo isn’t known for heavily complex planes so I doubt it’s technical. I’m speculating that they may have ran into some licensing issues.
I doubt it’s a licensing issue as these planes can still be purchased in 2020 and come included with the aviators editions of fs24
If I had to guess the culprit is the ps5 version as it seems none of these planes are running properly in that version
Oh I haven’t been paying attention to the PS5. I hope PS5 users don’t have as much of a struggle as Xbox users did in 2020.
Might the team consider to give us any information on what happened and what to expect?
This is false. Only 1 of the 4 planes mentioned in that post is part of AAU2, and those 4 planes have been fixed on PS already in a recent update.
I don’t find this to be entirely true despite that update. All four aircraft still give a warning to “update the sim” to get additional features but updating, restarting console, etc. doesn’t do anything. Additionally, the “switches not working problem” (at least) is still an issue in the ATR. I may be alone in seeing this, haven’t seen any confirmations from other PS5 users that they’re seeing the same behavior. But I don’t think this has been fully put to bed on PS5
Is this still on the horizon?
I would speculate we have to wait until SU 5.1 is out. But this is pure speculation and unfortunately they don’t talk to us as usual.
