Not to mention the scrolling isn’t very smooth either.
It feels like the UI on 2024 was purposely designed to be difficult and clunky.
I’d really like to know what design decisions went into this UI.
Wouldn’t this be useful for your development and QA testing?
Think how much time you would save internally. And as a side benefit you’d close a 5 year old issue and make a lot of customers happy.

Yeah! the developers are very fast with prgramming, what Joerg promissed…already for the MSFS (2020) 
I’d like to suggest a new feature for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 called “My Hangar” — a personal aircraft library where users can add their favorite aircraft for quick access.
As more aircraft become available through freeware, payware, and Marketplace purchases, the default aircraft browser can become cluttered. A “My Hangar” feature would streamline the experience for users who own a large number of aircraft and want to access their most-used planes quickly and efficiently.
Core Concept:
“My Hangar” would allow users to add specific aircraft to a favorites list with a simple button press, making them easier to find and load in the simulator.
Suggested Features:
- Add to My Hangar Button:
Each aircraft in the aircraft selection menu would have an “Add to My Hangar” option. Clicking this would mark the aircraft as a favorite. - Dedicated “My Hangar” Tab:
A separate tab or filter would be added alongside existing categories like “All,” “Single Engine,” “Turboprop,” etc. This tab would only show aircraft the user has added to “My Hangar.” - Sort and Organize Options:
Allow users to sort favorites by name, aircraft type, developer, or installation date. Optional custom tags or groups (e.g., “Vintage,” “Jets,” “Short Hops”) would help users organize their collection. - Cloud Sync Support:
The My Hangar list would sync with the user’s account, so it follows them across reinstalls or multiple PCs. - Quick Load Presets (Optional):
Users could save preferences like favorite livery, aircraft state (cold & dark or ready-to-fly), and even a default airport. This would speed up the flight setup process significantly. - Shortcut/Controller Support:
Provide users the option to assign a key or controller shortcut to open the My Hangar tab directly from the main menu.
Why This Would Help:
- Helps users manage large aircraft libraries more easily.
- Saves time during flight setup.
- Improves accessibility and user experience, particularly for casual users or those with visual or cognitive challenges.
- Makes MSFS feel more personal and efficient.

Not sure how they managed to make the same mistake again by totally ignoring that blindingly obvious user need/requirement/want, but here we are again, in 2024, just like in 2020.
Some type of “Aircraft Manager” capability with favorites/sorting/tagging/notes++ would be really useful, for sure.
Too bad they nuked the ability modify the UI, someone might have been able to add that!

This seems like such low-hanging fruit. It’s disappointing they haven’t done such a simple quality of life improvement after 5 years.

I created this wish list item in 2020 shortly after MSFS launched and since then its acquired almost 700 votes.
After the launch of MSFS 2024 it was generally thought that an aircraft favorites list or filter is even more important for the new simulator due to the UI no longer providing aircraft category filters as was the case in 2020.
Initially the MSFS 2024 developer updates provided a combined MSFS 2020 / 2024 top wish listed items slide and people creating new forum posts had their posts for 2024 merged into this one. More recently the developer updates have started providing separate wish list slides for MSFS 2020 and 2024.
As I feared this wish list request has not been duplicated into the MSFS 2024 list and remains only on the 2020 wish list slide. It has been marked as under investigation for several years now and I highly doubt it will ever be implemented in 2020 as it transitions to more of a maintenance mode. This also means that an airplane favorites list for MSFS 2024 will probably fall off Asobo’s radar and not be implemented.
If any of the forum mods read this can we please get this request moved to the MSFS 2024 wish list tracking so that it continues to have the visibility it deserves based on the high number of accumulated votes.
If there is some reason why the developers don’t plan to ever provide such a feature then just have it marked as “not planned” and lock this thread rather than having it labeled as under investigation for years.

Finally, some good news on the UI/UX front.
Better late than never.
Let’s hope they review it properly with users that actually use the sim on a daily basis to surface real UX friction issues, not just follow academic HCI theory.

It would be a nice if the user could me there on categories for the planes like i want to make a category for Airbus or Cessna.
It would be awesome in Free Flight mode to see a tab “Favorites” or “My Hangar” as a list that every player has the ability to favorite aircraft that he fly most instead of typing the brand or searching through the whole catalog to find the most used aircraft.

Hell even an option to make custom tags for example
Turbofan Airliners/private
Turboprop airliners/private
Warbirds
Fighter jets
Bush planes
Ga planes
Helicopters
Etc
I know that would go along way in organising my hanger and make it easier to find aircraft I want to fly
And everyone will have there different rating systems then also adding a favourites so there’s a page of the mainly used ones yes it adds more layers but at the same time tidys it all up

Hi everyone,
I’d like to suggest an improvement to the aircraft selection experience in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
As the simulator continues to grow, the number of available aircraft—both default and third-party—can become quite large. This makes the aircraft selection menu increasingly cluttered and less efficient to navigate, especially for users who regularly fly only a small subset of their fleet.
I do suggest two options:
1. Favorites System

Allow users to mark aircraft as “favorites.”

Add a dedicated “Favorites” filter or section in the aircraft selection menu.

Provide an option to set the Favorites view/filter as the default when opening the Free Flight screen.
OR
2. Hide/Show Aircraft

Allow users to hide specific aircraft from the selection menu.

Hidden aircraft would remain installed but not appear unless re-enabled via settings.
Benefits:
- Faster and more streamlined aircraft selection.
- Reduced clutter, especially for users with many add-ons.
- Improved usability for those who focus on study-level aircraft or specific types.
- Better overall user experience without impacting existing functionality.
This would be a relatively simple quality-of-life improvement that could make a big difference for many users.

If only the main menu was unlocked, we could do that ourselves.
But, alas, no, the main menu system is locked out.
I even spent a few hours recently poking at it again to see if was possible to “hack it betterer” but gave up in disgust.
The UX beatings shall continue until morale improves!

Dear Asobo,
I have, by default which I pretty much cannot uninstall,152 planes.
I’m never EVER going to fly them all, and I really don’t want to.
Why Would You Not Allow Your Customers to ‘Favorite’ certain aircraft? (and remember what liveries they preferred)
Do you dislike your customers that much?
This has only been going on since 2020.

Really surprised this isn’t possible. I’ve got several aircraft I fly for a Virtual Airline that are the only ones I’m interested in switching between when I fly. But I have to scroll through a ton of aircraft to find them anytime I want to switch to one of the others. Sure would be nice to show a filtered list of favorites, at a minimum.
