Have you also had such an abnormal data consumption since SU11?
I’ve been flying for a few hours the last 3 days and had a data usage of almost 200GB. Photogrammetry is off, live weather and traffic too. Only ground textures and multiplayer on.
Only ran into this as my monthly 250Gb was suddenly gone after 13 Days. I think, ok, gave a few downloads, bought 10Gb for 15 euros. But after a 30-minute flight, FS ate up these 10Gb again.
In the past I didn’t use 4GB in 5 hours with the same settings in the same area.
OK, cause found. Bing probably has new maps and FS is streaming at a better zoom level, probably because of the helicopter flights. Since I mostly flew in areas that were also covered on the ground by an addon with high-resolution aerial photos, I didn’t realize it. (FS also updates the underlying, invisible areas)
On the one hand I welcome the now really very good quality (Europe) Even small road markings can be seen very well, but we could have been told that the traffic goes up to 6 times higher. Not fun for people like me with a data plan if the monthly budget is suddenly gone after a few hours. (Ø 2.7Gb in 10 minutes)
Well, I’ll probably put up with an additional 30 euros a month for an unlimited LTE contract. The better picture quality is worth it.
I’ve been using MSFS since August 2020, and my usage has not changed much at all during this time. The other day I received a notice from my Internet provider letting me know that I was approaching my monthly limit of 1.2 TB. I have never received such a notice before. Periodically I would check my data usage in MSFS, and it was typically in the 200-300 GB per month, which seemed normal. As you can see from my attachment, I am currently running at a rate a bit over 500 GB per month. In the past six months I have only exceeded 500 GB one time, and that was my total usage (Netflix, etc), not just for MSFS.
I am hoping that someone can tell me why this data consumption number might be so high the past couple of months. I would encourage you to check out your usage, especially if you are on a limited plan. Just g to the MSFS Home page. Select the Options tab, and then select General Options. Finally, select Data. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I mentioned the probable reason in the post above you. Ground texture resolution has increased in many areas. Probably to spoil not the fun for the helicopter pilots.
