Description of the issue:
With the new SU2 addons that modify the weather do not work anymore. In Active Skye FS (newest beta version auf Active Sky) it shows being correctly connected to the sim but the settings are not applied. Also i am not sure if this error has the same origin, but using FSRealistic the camera shake settings etc. work, but when playing sounds there seems to be problems, although previewing the sound in FSRealistic works fine. Both is dependent on SimConnect
Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?
No, active sky was working with all previous versions of MSFS2024. It is not only the error with the User.cfg, there seems to be some problem with SimConnect.
[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
Kind of. I did test a clean install with only Active Sky installed.
FREQUENCY OF ISSUE
How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
Not working at all. (I also tried RealCat Turbulence Areas, but i can’t tell for sure if that had an effect or not)
REPRODUCTION STEPS
Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:
Install clean MSFS2024
Launch once for all files to initiate
Set weather to Custom and leave it on any (always had clear skies before su2 which then was being overwritten)
Install the newest beta version of Active Sky FS
Start MSFS, load into the game
Start Active Sky FS
You can compare METAR report from Active Sky and ingame and will see it is not applied at all.
[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
I have tried analyzing with developer mode, but i did not found a correct cause.
[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:
Newest NVIDIA
Moved to Sim Update 2 Beta | MSFS 2024 > External 3rd Party Products : All issues caused by or involving third-party addons/mods should be reported to the third-party developer. Assure that no addons/mods are used when reporting issues in Bug Reports.
Is anyone able to confirm, or does someone got it working in SU2?
This is a post from their forums with the same issue, but no official source responded yet.
I saw someone in the discord stating he got it to work after reinstall, hover i did reinstall ASFS SU2 beta with full cache clear and did not made it work.
The Weather Preset did not switch to the Active Sky one, which happens in SU1 and before automatically, if correctly installed.
At this point, it looks like much of the FS2020 legacy JS/UI mod capability is being removed or has completely changed for FS2024 SU2, which disables ASFS and many other utility/toolbar panel add-ons. We are hard at work trying to find a way to redesign things. For now, ASFS is not compatible with SU2. More updates soon.
At this point i am questioning if there is any improvement in using asfs even if it would be compatible. For the pure point of weather realism msfs has greatly improved since the initial release of asfs. Maybe the core feature of asfs, improving weather realism, is just not fulfilling its usecase anymore in these days.
tl;dr. Active Mode waits for Asobo Fix (could eventually work by manually loading created preset in msfs), Passive Mode can / may / should currently work with SU2.
damian - ASFS Dev - From HifiSimTechForum
You may be able to manually load the Active Sky Weather Preset from the presets menu, but this will only provide some limited basic functionality and will not be ideal. Instead, please consider passive mode (manually enabling the MSFS live weather mode), which may work better in this current situation. Of course, you can also roll back to SU1 which continues to work fine.
Update: Several developers (including us) have confirmed the issue via the publicly available channels to MS/Asobo and yes, we await some kind of resolution or guidance. Many add-ons will be disabled without some kind of fix so we are hopeful that one may be provided, otherwise several popular 3rd-party add-ons will no longer be possible with FS2024 after SU2 release, after previously being compatible, with a documented SDK function being made unavailable in this update.
We’ll come back with more details as soon as they are available. Thanks everyone.
Can somebody from Asobo comment on this? The developer of AS claims that a feature in the SDK which allows AS to inject weather was removed in one of the SU beta patches. What feature was removed? Is it going to be restored or was this change planned by Asobo because of issues with the feature that negatively impact MSFS 2024?
This is a question for the developer forum and should by asked by the asfs devs themself. It is not our responsibility to clarify SDK conditions for a product we payed money for.
The developer already asked about this on the Developer’s forum, but it would be nice if users had an explanation of whether it’s a permanent change or it’s being investigated because the change was unintentional. It’s obviously Asobo 's prerogative to remove any feature that they feel is unnecessary.
MSFS deals with third party issues only through the developer forum, so you aren’t going to get an official answer in these forums.
I would speculate and mention that if a feature was removed, it probably would have been for a reason.
Yep, they changed and didn’t anticipate all use cases…
“Your addon falls in a very specific case, because you declare a panel but you do not really create it, bypassing the legacy initialization we had anticipated for in-game panel backwards compatibility.”
Thanks to MS/Asobo for solving the issue that was causing us problems! We have an early beta test build for those who would like to try, over at the HiFi forums.
